My maid of honor is my FH sister who lives two hours away. She only has weekends off and my days off are weekdays. She became very angry with me and threatened to not be in my bridal party anymore because I walked by a dress shop and fell in LOVE with one if the dresses and asked to try it on. I ended up picking that dress as MY dress and she called me upset when i sent her a picture of it for her opinion. She keeps telling me that shes supposed to help me pick and plan all these things. I feel that she is overreacting. I have tried to meet up with her different times and for different reasons. I dont want to feel guilty for finding my dress without her. Help?

She's totally overreacting. It's not the job of the MOH unless the bride wants it to be. It's usually the bride and her mother, and sometimes the future mother-in-law. For me it's my aunt and my niece. She may have wanted to be there, but it's not fair to you to have possibly lose your dream dress waiting. You look stunning in it

And .... let her stump and pout . That will happen and as the time goes by you will end up understanding how to calmly communicate your thoughts and help them understand your actions are not ment to insult or hurt them but you need to keep these task going and that’s that . Yes I get she wanted to be a part of your dress selection but it didn’t and that does not mean in any way that she should not be happy for you . Gorgeous dress and keep the good moments going.

That dress is gorgeous! I agree with PP. Don't let her ruin this moment or talk you out of getting it! Maybe invite her to your first dress fitting and some other events. She's being a little bit dramatic and will get over it. When I went looking for dresses I just took my mom. I told my MOH that she can go to my first dress fitting if she wants. I just didn't want a bunch of opinions to get in the way!

That dress is so unique and amazing!! Definitely don't feel guilty. If she wants to drop out, I would let her. You don't need that drama surrounding you during this stressful and busy time!

I just took my parents when I went dress shopping last minute "just to browse" and bought my dress. No one was upset because that's just how things happen sometimes and it actually relieved stress on me of who to invite!

Ask her to come to your first fitting and pick out veil and shoes. She can definitely still be involved if she calms down.

Your dress is gorgeous, and too bad for her that you found the dress you love without her being there. She sounds like a drama queen to me, and needs to get over it. Don't worry about this, you did nothing wrong, and if shes wants to not be part of the bridal party so be it.

Beautiful!! Don’t feel bad or guilty about not having her there. I only went dress shopping with my parents and my MOH understood why. If I involved one person then it would turn into everyone and too many opinions can be useless and overwhelming when the only opinion that really matters is yours.

She can be upset all she wants but if you found your dream dress so be it! Tough. She'll have to deal. I am purposefully not including my bridesmaids in my choice because I want to surprise them the day of. Only my mom and sister will know what my dress is. I mean you already sent her the dress, but she should be happy for you, not mad!

Do you love that dress?? That is all that matters. Tell your FSIL she's overreacting and if she doesn't chill show her all our responses.

First, Holy Crap! Your dress! It is amazing! Don't feel bad that she wasn't with you. My MOH lives in a different state and because of when she was able to be here vs when when my dad was here, she wasn't with me when I found The One. I wasn't even able to send a pic to her to get her input until after since she was on a plane at the time. She was a little upset as was I cuz I didn't think I would find one without her, but she is a grown woman and realizes that not everything is about her. We did go dress shopping when she was with me so we could have the experience though and it worked out great. I also made a trip to her just so I could be there to help find her dress. Don't let her control your timeline of planning. It isn't her wedding. It's yours. She can't always be there to help plan. Good luck with the rest and CONGRATS on finding your dream dress!

You have nothing to feel guilty over. First, it sounds difficult to hook up because you live far apart, and your work schedules are very different.

There is no rule that the MOH has to be involved in the planning, or in the dress shopping. It's whatever you and FH want. Your MOH is seriously overreacting!!

If she wants to act like a brat and drop out, let her. You don't need that kind of drama queen attitude.

My maid of honor was upset because I found my dress when she wasn't there. But we have opposite work schedules! If I only went with her, I still wouldn't have a dress picked out. I took her back to the shop the day I officially said "yes" and bought it.

Its your wedding not hers if you love the dress you have every right to get it. Maybe you need a new maid of honor since she is so far away. Thankfully my maid of honor is my best friend and she lives less than 30 minutes from me.

........... Its YOUR wedding dress.... Idk this just baffles me.

I made an appointment to try dresses, told my MOH when it was and if she could come that was great but she couldn't and she was not upset. Our schedules don't match often, and the only person who had to like it was me anyway. I sent her pics after falling in love with one and she was so ecstatic for me....

Anyway, that dress is so stunning and I can't wait to see BAM photos of you in it!!!!!!!!

My sister (not even MOH) had the same issue. I went with one of my BMs (who is also getting married) to just see what style I liked and fell in love with one. I Skyped my mom when I was deciding but that was it. I showed the rest of my party pics. it is not mandatory to have your MOH at places. One way I placated my sister was to tell her that she and my mom can come to the final fitting so they can see it all put together and gorgeous before everyone else

also, that dress is fantastic! I LOVE

I only had my mom and FMIL come dress shopping with me. I invited my stepmom, but she was sick the day I had scheduled. So you definitely don't need to feel bad. I hadn't even picked my wedding party before looking at dresses. The place I went only allows 4 people with me though, so I didn't want to just include my MOH and not the rest of my girls! So I'm sticking with the moms even for the fittings.
