Maid of honor AND man of honor?

Taylor, on May 8, 2013 at 11:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

Can I have a maid of honor AND a man of honor? The man is my brother, and he's been my best friend since I was born. He is also gay and will be attending my bridal showers and bachelorette party if there is one. My maid of honor lives in Louisiana and just found out she's pregnant. So she wont be able to come to Colorado often and help. These 2 are my best friends. Is it appropriate to have both? My fiance things ut should be by gender since 2 families are becoming one, they shouldn't be split by who us with who, but go by gender.

There is no reason you can't have a man of honor. Does FH have a sister or something who he'd want in his party? It's okay if you each "switch" a person too. It's really whatever makes you and FH happy.

You can have whoever you want in your bridal party, with whatever title you want them to have. I see nothing wrong with including your brother on your side.

I have a Man of Honor (my brother), a Maid of Honor (my best friend), and a Matron of Honor (my aunt who is like a sister to me). They are all very special to me in very different ways. I referred to them as "Bride's Attendants" in our wedding program.

For my wedding I also have a gay friend that is my man of honor but he is standing with the groomsmen and he is also walking down one of my bridemaids. He is also the one that is throwing me my bridal shower.

Your wedding. Your rules. You can have a dog of honor if you want. You don't need to have a woman on his side, and you don't need to have even numbers on both sides. I think that would be an honor to your friend to have him by your side!

I agree with the statement "your wedding, your rules." Whatever you and your FH want is what you should do for your wedding.

I am planning to have my FW's brothers as groomsmen, along with my brothers. She will probably not be having anyone from my family on her side just because she isn't real close to my SIL's, and I don't have any sisters. Her brother's are too traditional to stand on the bride's side, but I would be fine with it if that's what she wanted to do.

DO IT! My brother is my best friend and my maid of honor also! I chose to have only him, no bridesmaids.
