Lunch for Wedding Day

Andrea, on December 9, 2021 at 8:10 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hello,

My wedding is just over a month away, so I am in the process of securing lunch for the day of the wedding. We begin getting ready with hair/makeup at 10am and will start getting into dresses about 1:45pm.

What is easy to order for lunch that will feed 9-10 people, but won't make us super full or bloated. Initial thoughts were Jimmy Johns or Chic-Fil-A, but I want to hear other options!

We are making sure to avoid sweets and carbs, as they can bloat you and make you feel too full. And also anything fast food or fried, as it can cause gastrointestinal issues. We will have large meat & cheese trays, non-citrus fruit trays, veggie trays, and small sandwiches from a deli (or maybe Panera, since there’s one a few blocks away from the hotel we are getting ready at).

Maybe a brunch platter? Hard boiled eggs, fruit, toast, oatmeal, teas, cereals, pastries?

We did Panera. They have a lot of options, and they deliver. Bonus.

Chick-fil-A, Panera, Publix sub platter are all ideas we had! Ended up going with a sub platter from Publix.

I ended up ordering pizza!! I love pizza so much and all of my bridesmaids were so excited about pizza so that’s what we did.

I'm in the same situation, I ordered a bunch of cold salads for lunch (kale salad, pasta salad, chicken salad, tomato/mozzarella salad, and fruit salad) to be delivered when we start getting ready around noon. I'm bringing paper plates and utensils and will bring crackers, bread, drinks, and popcorn/chips for anyone who wants that. I think most people also have champagne during this time but I don't think it's necessary.

We did Panera and it was perfect. We did the half sandwich option, and it came with salad. So nobody felt overly bloated after eating because they were able to pair half a sandwich with the salad.

I would avoid fast food, as it tends to be really salty and that causes bloating.

We had a heaping salad (mostly greens with some dried fruit and nuts and a light vinaigrette) and then DIY pitas with chicken salad, tofu salad, and some other lighter options, and some fruit. We also had some leftover pizza (thin slices of wood fired pizza on a thin crust, not like a heavy large cheesy Italian style pizza with a doughy crust) from our rehearsal dinner as well.

I think a crudite platter or charcuterie board style lunch where folks can customize and moderate what they eat is ideal because it allows people to "snack" as opposed to having a big meal, and those items don't need to be served and enjoyed hot, which makes it easier to graze or for people to nibble at their own pace and on their own timeline. Having a mix of fresh items (fruits and veggies) along with some proteins (cheese, meat, nuts, tofu) is likely to cater to everyone.

Make sure to accommodate any vegans you have in attendance. Takeout/delivery from any local restaurant is most convenient and filling: Chick Fil A, Subway, McDonalds, etc

Another option is platters from Costco: cheese and crackers, meat, veggies, sandwiches, yogurt cups, coffee, bottled water.

I've been a bridesmaid only once before and we did pizza for lunch 😅😅 I recommend, first of all, chatting with your bridal party and making sure there aren't any dietary restrictions or other concerns (my MOH is allergic to tomatoes, for example), and asking if they have suggestions (that you don't have to follow). Something like Panera or Chick fil a, where people could pick a salad if they're prone to bloating (like me), or chicken nuggets/mac and cheese (if they're blessed).

We're getting brunch before we start getting ready and I'll have platters from the grocery store, like Michelle mentioned, for us to snack on while we drink mimosas so we don't end up drunk before the wedding 😂
