Lump under my engagement ring

Chantal, on July 15, 2017 at 10:23 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 41

For the last week or so my ring finger has been hurting alot and there's a hard lump. Anyone know what could be causing it? It's hard to see but it's like a blister towards the top left

Try not wearing your ring for a few days (I know, the horror!) And if it doesn't go away, then I'd ask a Dr

I was worried I might be but I've been wearing it since may 18 th and it's just now showing up. It's painful and itches. I tried not wearing it and it kills me Smiley sad

I don't use bleach as I'm allergic to it

Is your finger swelling as sometimes it does that in the summer? The additional swelling might be causing irritation that wasn't previously noticeable. Maybe go a few days without it and have it cleaned just to be certain it's not an allergic reaction to dirt, the metal, or something trapped under there.

I get the same reaction if anything with nickel touches my skin. Does it itch or burn? If so, it's definitely an allergy. There might be something you can do to treat it or a jeweler may be able to plate the inside of the ring on top so it doesn't irritate your skin as much.

Just saw that you said it is painful and does itch. I had a similar reaction with my flute when I was younger. I played it for five years in band and started getting horrible bumps that itched and burned under my bottom lip. I found out it was a nickel allergy and it took so long to show up because there was silver plating over the nickel so it only started bothering me after the plating wore away. My suggestion is take it to a jeweler first and tell them to plate it with silver or white gold and you should be good until the plating wears away again. You may want to see an allergist as well to see if there are any other options.

My ring is white gold, I've had an allergy to white gold before and it was red rashes but this only started once ny finger was swelling

My FH father is a jeweler, I can try to ask him if he has any ideas. It may be possible to silver plate it and the silver will likely wear away by the end of summer when you don't have as much swelling. I'm sorry you're going through this!

Bc the white gold I had before was very cheap stuff so we did an allergy test before we bought it and I was fine

I just read online that some white gold may include nickel so maybe having a jeweler plate with white gold over the white gold could help.

Just throwing a random thought out there- I have eczema on my hands, and it's been flaring up under/around my ring. My dermatologist said the best thing to do is make sure when you wash your hands to dry where the ring sits so you don't allow moisture to get trapped under there as that's what could be causing a flare up.

Good luck though, hope it gets resolved quickly!

Do you take off your ring in the shower and when you wash dishes? I really want to help you! I found this online:
