Love my zipper back dress with buttons for show, but can i add a corset underneath to really get a tight fit??

I love the look of buttons, and I don't love the look of a corset back. I currently have a zipper back hidden by decorative buttons. Just on the lower back as I have a ballgown type dress. What I hope to do is have a corset on the inside so it really squeezes me and holds me in. I realize the zipper will only zip if the corset is tightened to the perfect amount, but this would dramatically help me with feeling like my waist isn't getting the silhouette I know it can have with a little snugness!

Anyone know if this is possible?? My seamstress seems to think it was a bad idea to put one on the inside the pull the dress taught... it just doesnt fit tightly enough. She is very good, says all the reviews, and i trust her opinion, but I can suck it in and zip up my own ballgown and turn it around I think it could be tighter!

Any opinions on how to solve for this would be wonderful! Thank you!

I also have a zipper back dress with for show buttons and had a corset added inside my dress. There’s a mesh portion and my seamstress was able to make a corset out of a similar mesh material and it made the dress fit so much better and isn’t obvious. This was before I lost about 20 pounds so it’ll have to be taken in but it was 100% worth getting it added, it make me feel much more held in and shaped me better! Chelsea your dress is beautiful! I feel like my bodice is similar to yours, kind of light delicate fabric but with boning inside.

We added a stretchy band inside mine to help hold the dress up, and make me feel fitted, but it doesn't do anything for the tightness of the actual dress, which is the goal!

It sounds like like seamstress attached the corset throughout the inside around your waist and was able to pull it tight??

That's exact what I am looking for!!

Hmmm. My dress had a built in corset, a zipper, and decorative buttons. It was a Maggie Sottero, and the dress was made that way from the start. So I know it's a thing, but I'm not sure if maybe the issue is adding it after the fact rather than during production?

There are some dresses that come with a built in interior corset, but it connects with hooks and eyes, not a lace up, maybe that would work better for what you want?

Yes! She somehow sewed it in and it closes with hooks, there’s two rows, a super tight one and a slightly looser one.

Hmm, maybe that is the difference. Im hoping they can just attach something to the "bones" of the existing structure of the dress, just built to tie or hook & clasp more tightly in the back, then zip right up and button over it! Thanks for responding

You guys have all been super helpful! Thank you all for responding. I had resigned to just having it as it is, but with our wedding rescheduled I figured I would try again and see if I can have it exactly how I want it! When i put it on, I can actually zip it up and turn it around on myself, I'd like it to be so snug that I can't do that haha!

    Thank you all!
