Lost our shower venue! Ugh!

Courtney, on May 21, 2019 at 5:27 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 5

Just venting...

My mom calls me this morning to tell me that we're losing my bridal shower venue. She works for one of our county's parks & rec locations that shares a portion of the building with a local elementary school. The public schools have decided that they want the rest of the building to make room for more kids in the area.

Don't worry about my mom though, she's already being transferred to another location.

Nothing could beat the price at $100 for 5 hours. The department is shaking up their schedules so who knows if we can find another space within the county. So it's back to square one with finding another venue. Thank goodness this is the only snag in our wedding plans.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! Could you use a public park? Or a local VFW or church?

I wish but it’s planned for October and that means cold rainy days in MD.
I’ve been calling around and many places start at $500+. I’m trying to keep it on the cheaper side as we’re only expecting 15-20 people.

How about a restaurant or winery? My mom is holding mine at a winery and they aren't charging for the space because they are providing the food.

I'm so sorry. I live in MD, but my shower was in PA. The same thing almost happened with my shower. We had invited about 40 people, but only about 20 could make it and the venue told my mom that they had a requirement of I believe 25 or 30 so in order to keep the venue she had to pay for the extra people even though they wouldn't be there. She was informed of this like 2 days before my shower. Rather than lose the venue my mom just paid the extra money. I didn't find out until afterwards because my shower was a surprise.

Many restaurants in the area want a deposit for group that large in addition to menu selections. If you go over a certain amount of people some places force you into their catering services. To me I just feel like that's overkill.
