Losing weight after first initial fitting

Elle, on February 25, 2020 at 3:05 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 10
Hi ladies,

My dress is finally in and my first fitting is this Thursday. Can I lose more weight after this fitting? I am definitely not where I want to be. I plan on losing maybe 10-15...

That is my dress in case that helps
Thank you in advance for your advice!

You should just reschedule so they don’t do unnecessary work. Maybe put it off by 3 weeks looose a couple more pounds and then see how you feel/look.

This would be a question for your seamstress. I ended up needing 7 or 8 fittings because I was losing weight from stress pretty rapidly and my seamstress was still making my dress smaller 3 days before my wedding. It worked out fine but I’m not sure if every dress and every seamstress has that capability!

Oh ok, so maybe I should do that. I thought you just had to go in for the first fitting right away to get an idea of how it fits.

Oh wow! Ok so I should probably just give them a call and tell them beforehand and see if they even want me to come in yet. Thank you!

Definitely! 4 months seems early. I started mine 2 months before but every seamstress is different. Or maybe they just want to do the hem at first! But it will be good to ask.

No. You’re paying them for a service they have to accommodate your schedule, when they call and say your dress is in just say due to xxxx I’d like to postpone the fitting for 2-3 weeks what dates do you have available at that time

Well, if it’s that the dress has just come in — get in there and get in it! You DO want to see ASAP that the dress came in right (it’s correctly made, it’s the right dress, it’s the right size, it’s the right color, etc)— but, you don’t necessarily need to start alterations right away Smiley smile

Sorry, comment got cut off. Do agree definitely feel free to call and discuss alterations schedule, and don’t be shy about letting them know you’re still working on losing weight

I bought my dress and did my first fitting before I lost 15 lbs. They ended up doing the hem & bustle, adding sleeves, cups, etc. then taking in the bodice closer to the wedding (about 1 month out).

If your dress just came in, keep the appointment. You want to make sure the dress is right, and they will want to see where you measure in it while it’s on. If this is a fitting appointment, then I would call and explain you are in the process of losing weight, and what do they recommend. It seems like once fittings start, you should be maintaining, otherwise it makes for more work, and more money.
