Los Angeles Budget Breakdown?

Samantha, on March 7, 2019 at 7:34 PM Posted in California Planning 1 8
Hi everyone! I'm looking to get married in the LA area, and wondering how other people have budgeted given the costs here. Did you spend most of your budget on the venue? What about music?

I'm finding looking at national averages to be difficult because things are so much more expensive here than other parts of the country. Any input would be super helpful!

I’m getting married in North Hollywood/Burbank and before we really started searching I knew we could be spending upwards to $20,000 or more. We booked a venue which has a 20,000 minimum for spending but ours has been lowered to $17,000 which includes catered food and open bar. There were venues that were definitely cheaper or around $12,000 for food/an or drinks but we chose ours for the location! Also, if we would’ve chosen to get married on a Friday, some venues do some big discounts if you have your wedding on a Friday. My brother got married last summer in SoCal and they really budgeted and saved a ton of money and rented out a barn and paid for catering, which altogether was very cheap. So, I think it just depends what kind of wedding you want and what kind of setting!

Hi Samantha! Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to WeddingWire!

Have you gotten a chance to have a look at our wedding planning tools? There is a great budget tool that will allow you to input your own budget and will then show you a breakdown of how much couples typically spend on venues and other vendors. You can completely customize it to your own wedding so is very helpful for keeping track of your spending!

Another really great resource we have is the wedding venue cost guide which shows you the average cost of wedding services in your area. Here, I've linked you to the cost of venues in Los Angeles but there is a huge amount of information here that you can refer back to when booking any vendor or service!

Depends on what you consider the LA area. I'm a bit further north of LA and we are at $15 with our <50 guest wedding. The budget we had was revised multiple times. Here are the steps we took.

What is the total amount we can/want to spend? What do we want? Organize what you want by order of priority (must have vs nice to have). Shop around for pricing based on the list. See how it fits with budget. Then rinse and repeat until it fits the budget you are comfortable with.

Average venues in my area ran between $2k-$4k, but often have huge F&B minimums ($10k+). So just be aware that sometimes there are hidden costs and minimums on venues, catering, and even photography.

I'm in the LA area and we're looking at venues in Orange County/San Diego area for about 35 ppl. Our budget is $11k not including my dress. The biggest hurdle for us has been finding venues that don't require a guest minimum on a weekend night. If we can get our venue with ceremony, F&B under $7k then we'll be in good shape.

We booked The Hacienda on October 5. Since it is a Saturday evening wedding the cost is a bit more, but overall it is going to be about $13-$14k just for the venue, but that includes food, free flow beer/wine, cake, pianist, orchids. Looks like the photographer and DJ are going to cost me about another $4-$5k.

I am getting married at Quail Ranch in Simi Valley, and I splurged on the venue/catering.
Venue is $8900 and Catering is $13k for 125 guests. It's also farm to table food, so it's bomb!! We tried it already. Our wedding overall is going to cost us about $35k.
All the other vendors were under $4k.
