Loosing Weight and My Ring Is Loose

Chrissy4985, on April 21, 2016 at 10:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hi Ladies,

I have been exercising a lot lately and my ring is fitting loosely. When I first got engaged it wasn't a snug fit and would turn a little bit and when I went back to the jeweler he said it's not suppose to be too tight and when I get my band it will fit together perfectly. He also recommended a ring guard until I got my band. I used the ring guard for a short while but then it became irritating and it made the ring real snug on my finger, so I took it off. Now I wonder if it's too loose. If i shake my hand it moves down a little bit but not past the middle of my finger. I am wondering if I should get it re-sized or try the ring guards again until I get my band. What do you think?

Same thing's happened to me and I'm just leaving it as is. It's loose now, but when I add my wedding bands (I have 2) then it's fine and even a tad snug without being uncomfortable. You could always get those little beads put on by the jeweler. Those allow your fingers to swell when it's hot, resizing your stuck with it.

    Congrats on the weight loss!

That happened to me, too, a couple times. I have a diamond ring that my parents gave me when I was 15, and I lost a lot of weight a few years ago. I think I had it resized smaller twice in the process. I think if you're still loosing weight, you should try going with the ring guard first, and if it still doesn't fit after you're married, then maybe get it resized when you're done loosing weight or else you might end up resizing it a couple times like I did.

I've already had mine re-sized twice in my 30lb journey. It's loose now, but I use a ring guard. The jeweler said to reassess closer to the wedding since in Aug my finger will be more swollen.

I may look into the beads though...anyone have those added

I just had these beads put in mine because my knuckles swell. The jeweler noticed it was loose when I took my band in to be repaired and so I told him it's only loose when I'm cold, but when I'm warm and my knuckles swell, I can't get it off. This way, it prevents spinning and holds it more secure while still being able to slide off when you want to.

Ooh, I think I need to ask about beads! I have a similar problem - when it's hot or I have consumed more sodium, my ring gets super tight. But when I'm cold, it spins like crazy!

Former jewelry store manager here! I'd suggest waiting on resizing until you've reached your goal weight and have your wedding band. The more you resize, the weaker the metal becomes and you risk the shank splitting later on. I'd wait until you get your set soldered for sure. In the meantime, have another ring guard put on. Not the plastic ones, the metal kind. Then you can adjust how loose or how tight it feels on your own.

I orded these ring guards on amazon for about $5, and it came with 3 different sizes. They're pvc I think, anyway you twist them onto the ring and can cut them to size. I wanted something I could easily remove and put back on when my fingers swell up in the summer.

Try the ring guards again. If they don't work try resizing it.

I just bought this ring sizer resin? that you put on almost like nailpolish and it dries with an LED light. It has been a lifesaver for me as no jeweler wants to touch my ring to resize it because the way its made. You can use it to make the the sizing bumps or use it all the way around the bottom like a ring guard. It also comes with stuff to remove the resin if need be. Was completely worth the $14.95 I paid for it and so much more comfortable then a metal ring guard (had that) or the plastic noodle thing (had that too) I bought it on Etsy

I got a metal ring guard put in my ring at a local jewelry store. It can be adjusted a little bit incase my ring size fluctuates.
