Long veil and lei

Happy In Hawaii, on April 10, 2014 at 7:59 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

I know I have plenty of time to think about this but I wanted to see what you all thought would be best.

My FH and I plan to do a lei exchange during our ceremony (instead of a sand ceremony or candles, etc). However I plan to wear a long veil (see picture). Traditionally men wear an open maile leaf lei and women wear a closed lei. So my question is, should I have him place the lei on me and then my veil would be tucked in until the end of the ceremony? Or should he put the lei on and then have my MOH pull the veil through? Or should I make it so that the lei is open with ribbons on the end to tie it together after putting it around my neck? I'm trying to think of what would look the least awkward and not take too much time.

I think the least awkward thing would be to have him tie the lei together-- you don't want any interruptions to that beautiful veil!! My suggestion is to have him practice it a few times before the big day so that it goes smoothly.

    Thanks Cristi&Ryan! I didn't even think about practicing, that's a good idea!

I definitely didn't really think this through when I decided on that veil, but I don't want to eliminate the lei exchange either...so I just want to have something not so awkward.

I'm a fan of whatever keeps you from having to touch that gorgeous veil! Team Long Veil here!

I think he could tie that veil with the ribbons as you suggested and yes, practice would help. I would have you practice being able to move your veil to the side, so that your neck is exposed enough.

    You can make it work.

    Thanks for your input Barbara!

@rusticbride, thanks for the compliment on the veil, I'll be part of Team Long Veil (now I'm picturing a team of brides running around in long veils playing soccer or something lol)!

Thanks for your advice, that's a good idea to move it to the side, I just want to make sure it's not going to take up too much time, maybe we can have the pastor talk through that part about the special meaning or something so people aren't bored. Let's just hope it's not too windy or that could complicate things!
