There are Pros and cons to both. Maybe you want to restrict how many guests come, maybe those guests are excited to go on a trip..... I am doing a DW I honestly wanted to have a small wedding, but I do have a lot of people on my life. The DW allowed me to have our close friends and family there without feeling bad about others not coming. I was very considerate to the guests and cost when I chose the venue. It’s only costing between **** for the week, flight and hotel. My friends and family know how important traveling is to me. I also have a lot of people who were scared to go to Jamaica lol so I am forcing them to see how wonderful it is 😜

If you want a big wedding, I wouldn’t do DW. It is costly to a lot of people, it’s hard arranging hotel ect for a large group, and you really need to trust the people doing the day of stuff. A DW is what I’ve always wanted. I gave everyone 2 years to save and plan, now an extra 6 months (postponed) only 1 couple can’t come due to costs and time off work. Everyone else is super excited to join us. I am spending 14,000 for 22 guests. I don’t think I’m saving money necessarily......

I’d figure out costs for guests (hotel, flight, transportation, food, and remember they may be using precious vacation days most people don’t get a lot of at their jobs), and then put yourself in their shoes. Would you pay that much to attend a wedding?

Our original DW would have been too expensive for us and most of our guests which is why we did a micro DW and local reception. Best of both. 😁 Plus, our family rented a big house at our DW to save money. And for all guests but 3 our destination was only an inexpensive 1-hour flight or 8-hour drive. And my family hosted a welcome dinner the night before (BBQ, sides, wine & beer).

That was nice of them and a great touch on the big house for guests.

Definitely you make sure to find out what the country's requirements are for getting married. I looked into a DW in Mexico a few years ago, and there were several things we were going to have to do (and pay for) to be legally married there. We still almost went that route, but we found a beautiful, cost-effective venue and went for it. If the wedding planning process seems more stressful than fun (cake tastings, venue shopping, etc.) and you are okay with a very limited gust list, I think a DW is for you!!

Destination, but it depends on your guests. You don't want to price anyone out :-)
