My sister gets engaged 2 weeks ago. She told me her wedding date yesterday (after the rest of the family already knew), it's exactly 1 week after mine. Not only that, but it's a destination wedding AND scheduled on the same date that I was having my big "after-wedding" party/reception. The date for her holds ZERO significance. Now the entire family is busy planning her wedding.

I held my tongue and poker faced my way through the conversation. I am so hurt I don't even know how to handle the situation. All the special-ness of my day has been taken away. I don't know if I should even have my big party since none of my family will be able to attend.

Am I just being petty? I know the excitement of being a bride, I'm trying to be happy for her. But I'm a bride too.

I'm so sorry. I'm in a similar situation. My sister set her date 6 months BEFORE my wedding. It's this weekend. I have been trying to book vendors for my wedding, but for the last 2 months, my Mom has been telling me to wait until my sister's wedding is over. I'm so very frustrated. Thank God we can focus on my wedding on Sunday.

You are NOT being petty. I think that you and I simply have self-centered, insecure sisters who feel the need to compete. I'm so sorry for your situation. Try to focus on YOUR happy day and concentrate on the love of your life. I know it's hard to do. I've been struggling with it. A LOT.

Remember to breathe & always stay true to who you are and to the wedding of your dreams.

    HUGS!

Thanks ladies for all the support. After a few days of thinking about it and discussing it with DF we have decided to move up our wedding to August. After giving it some thought, I realized I really did want my family to be present at the wedding and the real sting was coming from the fact that my family was going to be present for my sister's wedding but not mine.

So, we moved the wedding to August - we were always planning on a small ceremony - so we're going to keep it small but in our town so the family and friends can come. And August is far enough away from my sister's wedding that neither of our dates, activities, or planning events will conflict with the other.
