Lipstick sample size/color swatch

Why not go to Sephora, Ulta and maybe Bare Minerals and let them try a few colors on you?

Normally the minis come in sets, so you cant really just buy one. I recommend the jeffree star velour liquid lipstick amazing, long lasting formula ! It’s not drying at all and it’s lightweight on your lips!

I'm not sure about samples, but I used a Kylie Lip Kit for our wedding and I was so happy. She has a ton of matte colors, they sell them at Ulta too and have great pictures/descriptions online.

I too recommend visiting a store such as Sephora or Ulta and trying on some different brands. If you find one you like, you could always leave the store with some on, go run any other errands you need to do and see how it lasts! This is what I do sometimes

I go to sephora all the time to try lipstick! Go in one day, put some on, and then walk around, maybe get lunch, see how it does. If it lasts through that, go back and buy it!

If you just want to test colors, you could buy several in a cheaper brand (I think Wet n Wild has $1-2 lipsticks). Once you find a color you like, go find something similar in a higher end brand!
