Lingerie shopping with mother in law? #not having a lingerie shower

Yup. She wants to go naughty panty shopping with me. A little backstory: my fiance is an only child (and my older brother's best friend!) and I come from a huge family of 8 kids. Yup. She wants to go naughty panty shopping with me. A little backstory: my fiance is an only child (and my older brother's best friend!) and I come from a huge family of 8 kids. I've been friends with his mom since I was about 4 years old, and we are close, but for some reason she has it in her mind that we are going to be "best friends" when fiance and I are married. She brought up the convo about lingerie and asked if my mom was going to take me (um... no? Is she supposed to?) I told her that my bestie and I were going. Then she said several times that she would "love to take me." Umm... Is it just me or is that awkward? Then I texted my friend and begged her to go with me hahaha. She finally dropped it when I told her every time that bestie and I were going together, but then for my bridal shower(no lingerie) she got me a large sum gift card to a lingerie store. Is this awkward\weird, or am I just thinking too much? Why would I want her helping me pick out lingerie for her son?

I think I would die if my FMIL bought me or even suggested buying me lingerie lol she didn't even want us to stay in the same room overnight when we were already 4 years into the relationship. Obviously it's different now, but that would still make me uncomfortable.

I think it's weird considering it is your FMIL. However my mom will probably gift me lingerie (but we are also best friends)

One word...boundaries. Next, she'll be trying to chat you up on your opinion of "Fifty Shades of Grey" (it sucked -- book and movie). Of course you feel odd. What DIL wouldn't? After all, who is going to see you in this lingerie? Her baby boy, of course. Yeah, that's big on the freak-o-meter.

DH is a only too. While keeping in mind that she doesn't have a daughter to do these things with it does need to be brought to her attention that is uncomfortable for you. DH called me three days before my shower asking about my sizes for his mom who wanted to buy me that sort of thing for my non lingerie shower. I just told him that is someone does not know my size we are not close enough for that, sort of gift to be appropriate. While she was a little offended the boundary was set. Be sure to set boundaries with the parents of your only or these weird things will keep happening.

I think it's weird too. My future MIL says weird stuff to me all the time. She requested that her, my best friend (who happens to be dating my FH's brother), and I all go get Brazilian waxes together. Er, no.

That is very awkward! Maybe she just really wants grandkids! And this is her way of dropping hints

Is she talking about crotchless stuff??? Or just undies? My FMIL and I go to Victoria's Secret all the time and buy smelly good stuff, PJs, etc. We never get anything exciting concerning that haha just undies and she recently bought me a sports bra because she had a coupon. She is the best and so much fun to hang out with... Crotchless stuff, however. Ummmm no. I'm too embarrassed to get that myself let alone have someone get it for me!!

Yah that is out of line haha. My FMIL is fine except when I was in labor, FH told her about how I was induced (a unique way with a balloon) and she tried to look up my blankets at my privates >.> she is a nurse but I yelled NO! She has also gotten to second base with me trying to help me breastfeed. Will see if lingerie appears at my shower but that might be too far even for her.

I think it depends on your relationship. My mom and I can do that kind of thing together no problem. We can talk about anything, sex, whatever. But with my MIL I wouldn't want to get within a city block of a lingerie store with her. If we were close it would be fine but we don't get along well and she is very repressed so no way.

It's a no for me on lingerie shower to! FMIL offered to throw me one and I was like OH hell no! I would like to pick my own stuff out, plus I wouldn't be able to wear any of it knowing FMIL knew exactly what I got. Oh no. Just no. So awkward!

Nothing kills the mood faster than: "wow babe, you look so sexy"

"Thanks, your mom picked it out"

    (Is this pic considered nsfw?)

At my MOH's bridal shower, her mom gave her lingerie and said "it's baby making gear." It was super awkward. But yes, it does seem weird that she's interested. I agree with wanting the grandkids.

    Ew.

I've never heard of a lingerie shower either. The whole concept seems icky. But then again, I don't see the purpose of something you put on just to take off...
