Light makeup ok for engagement photos?

JessieLensherr, on May 2, 2016 at 5:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Hi ladies! Our engagement shoot is this week, so excited! So, I hardly ever wear makeup but was playing around with some today. I'm hiring a professional for the wedding but how does this look? Ok for photos? Tips and opinions please!

I would do whatever you're comfortable with. It does look like you have a bit of redness in your skin though. Look at a green primer- it cancels out any redness. You can get a sample of it at Sephora!

Yes I have super rosy cheeks/undertones. I'll look into green primer- thanks!

I did my own make up for our engagement photo shoot. I have a similar problem as to what FMH mentioned of redness within my skin especially when I have photos taken. On a normal day, I typically only wear chapstick and maybe mascara. But when I did my own make up for the engagement shoot, I used primer, light foundation, and setting spray which I would highly recommend.

I'm not a makeup guru, and I don't like spending a ton of money on something I'm not going to use often. But I found an amazing foundation by almay which color matches called ALMAY SMART SHADE MOUSSE MAKEUP (you choose between like 3 different tones and it blends in to your skin). The primer and setting spray I got from E.L.F. and they were amazing. All of it was very inexpensive.

ETA: I LOVE LOVE LOVE your lip color. What shade is that?

It's too hard to really see the make-up you applied as the lighting in the photo is too dark, or way off. To get make-up advice, maybe post a photo in natural light Smiley winking All I'm seeing is lipstick

That being said.. You look cute!

ETA: Can't see your eye make-up either as that are is covered by your glasses in this pic Smiley winking

If you have a rosy undertone, I'd embrace that. Rosy undertones can make you look like you're glowing Smiley smile Also, foundation is best when it exactly matches your skin-- it shouldn't "correct" your skin colour in any way.

Also, it's really hard to judge your makeup in that photo but it doesn't look bad to me.

I would suggest a good foundation but exfoliate and moisturize before applying.

I did my makeup for the engagement shoot and I was a bit bummed out. I did a little more than usual, but wish I went even bolder. You have to do what you're comfortable with though because you don't want to hate the pictures afterward. I definitely agree with a good primer and foundation. I like your bold lip color!

If you're going to invest in make up-which is always a good idea for future wedding events then go to Sephora the morning of your shoot and they'll do your makeup 'for free' if you purchase $50 worth of products. You'll spend that easily going through cheaper stuff, instead get the right stuff and you'll have it for a while.

I think just for engagement pics it's fine to do your own makeup! Maybe just a little eyeliner on the bottom?

You should wear whatever you feel comfortable with. I feel my best in light makeup so that is what I wore for our engagement shots and wedding both. I literally just wore eyebrow pencil, mascara, and powder. That's it. No foundation, no eye shadow, no lipstick. I did get convinced to put on a tiny bit of tinted lip balm for the wedding during the ceremony and photos but that's about it because I don't care for lipstick.
