I have an envelope moistener thing at work that I use constantly. Got it from Staples. Super convenient to use. I hate the taste of envelopes.

Our envelopes must have been cheap. Dampened a sponge and the slightest bit of water made it all rippled and wouldn't stick well. We stacked them all under a weight to let them settle then bought some cheap seals at Michael's as a backup just in case they'd start to come loose in the mail. Not what I had planned, but oh well...

I personally licked all my save the dates because the sponge on the cheap envelope wetter we had tore off. On a select few (like one of my bridesmaids who has a great sense of humor) I wrote on the back, "I LICKED THIS!"

Thankfully our invitations come with seals!

I bought seals, but will likely use glue or water to seal in addition just incase it breaks.

I bought seals at CVS (in the stationary section). They are just little sticky circles that are peel and stick which worked perfectly for my save the dates.

Don't buy anything special to wet your envelopes. If you can't use self stick envelopes, just take a wash cloth/dish cloth and damp it a little bit. Don't soak it. Otherwise you're envelopes will get wet and wrinkly.

You can get seals/stickers/labels to secure them for mailing. There are some really cute ones at stores like Hallmark or order personalized seals like these from a Carlson Craft dealer near you. They have many styles, shapes and colors to choose from.

At work we use these little bottles that have the sponge applicator. All you have to do is fill it with water and squeeze a tiny bit. 9 times out of 10 they work well!

MissMadeline I was wondering the same thing. I didn't realize this was such rocket science.

I don't understand how this is most stupid question anyone has ever read... if you don't send large quantities of mailings out, it makes sense to me that you wouldn't be aware of the variety of items created to seal the envelope so you don't have to lick them.

Also, this reminded me of the Seinfeld episode when George's fiancee licks all their wedding invitation envelopes and dies... it's funnier on the show...

Wait. So what's the answer then?

Bahahahah; just kidding. Here is my answer, which summarizes all prior answers:

Go to an office supply store. Buy an envelope sealer or glue stick. If you are cheap, dampen a towel, a makeup brush or a foam paint brush. Use that instead of your tongue.

ps. Don't buy cheap envelopes or you could die in a very Seinfeldian way. It's true because I saw it on TV. It really did happen once to a girl named Susan. Seriously. Way true and real fer sure fer sure.

Wait - wasn't there a story circulating a while ago about a woman who cut her tongue while licking envelopes? There were spider eggs on the envelope and they got into the cut and eventually hatched, giving her spiders under the skin of her tongue. Just a word to the wise.

@Deborah, I hope you didn't find my response rude. I didn't mean it that way. I was making fun of the way that WW threads take on a life of their own.
