Liberian-American Wedding, how do I incorporate tradition & remain chic?

Amber, on February 29, 2012 at 10:12 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

I've picked out a few african wax prints that I love but I am not sure how to use them. My original thought was to have the bridesmaids dresses made out of the print and each BM would have a different style dress made out of the same material but now I am leaning toward a solid color like black or blue to pull out a color in the print for a more "chic" feel. But then where do I incorporate the print if this is a Liberian wedding? Also, I am not sure if the print I've picked matches the season in which the wedding is to take place (fall). Does this matter?? Please weigh in bc I have yet to commit to a color/theme for this wedding!! Thanks!

I personally think that if you have your BM use this material for the wedding in different styles,it will look all over the place..I understand trying to include your background as i am Nigerian.

Why dont you have your girls wear a traditional gown for the ceremony and use the african print for the reception, because if they wear this material then what will the men wear?

Good idea. What I'm considering now is having them wear black dresses with a sash made out of the wax. What about bowties for the groomsmen using the wax? Is that too 90s-esque?

I like the idea of black w/ the colored sash. And rather than ties for the men, maybe a pocket square.

Could you incorporate that into table runners or overlays?
