Let's talk dress bustles

SoontobeMrs., on March 11, 2017 at 12:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 34

Hi All- What was your type of bustle and why did you choose it?

At what point in the wedding does a bride bustle the dress, after ceremony, for first dances?

Anyone have a ruffled skirt wedding dress and what type of bustle did you choose?

You do the bustle after the ceremony and after the pictures. It just prevents people from stepping on your dress all night.

Your seamstress should be able to show you different kinds of bustles and which ones might work best for your dress. My seamstress did a ballroom bustle on my dress because of the material, and the fact that I have a fairly short train so there isn't too much to bustle.

Ruffled dresses should be bustled so the skirt looks the same minus the train

Here is my bustle. It is a 5 point bustle according to my seamstress.

My dress has ruffle bottom and I don't know what it's called but my bustle tucks under and makes it look like there was never a train to begin with...kinda like what Blair showed

I worked at Vera Wang in Chicago years ago, and I always thought French bustles look best. That is what I am doing on my gown.

I was told that there is a lovely side bustle that I can do to follow the drape of the back. I'm still trying to figure out what that is. I have about 6 more months before I start alterations.

Here is my dress before and after the bustle. It was a 10 point (I believe it was a French) bustle. My BMs helped me bustle it after pictures before we went to the reception.

@Autumn...we seem to have similar dresses, at least from the back. What is the name of your dress designer? I'll have to ask my seamstress about doing a side bustle.

My bustle takes the train and tucks it under the dress. When done it looks like there was never a train.

I don't have a photo of it yet, but my bustle is a complex series of hooks and loops to make the entire dress tea length!
