Let Me See Your Dresses: Plus Size Edition

I'd love to see your plus size wedding dresses! I will be starting my dress shopping in July and I'm having a hard time finding dress inspiration online. I'd love to see some plus size dresses that aren't on models. Show me your gorgeous curves, ladies!

I dreaded dress shopping & it soooooo shouldn't be that way! I went to DB & was pleasantly surprised when I was able to try on some dresses (size 24 & long line bra did wonders for the fit). The 2nd time I went shopping, I called a local shop to verify they had plus size gowns for me to try one; but....they had 0 available in my price range. I felt like it was a wasted trip, as I wasn't going to order a non-returnable dress from a pic/never being able to try it on :o

I would suggest calling shops ahead of time, to verify sample sizes available in your price range. I made a 2nd trip to DB & found my dress : )

From Hayley Paige! There was an additional charge for dresses over size 14 I believe.

@WWLynnie- That's good to know, thank you!

Okay here's another related question- What was your budget for your dress? I see a lot of PS dresses I like but they're all double or triple my (small) budget. I'm definitely struggling with "SBBH" (Small budget, big hips). Did you find that you had to spend more than average on the dress or alterations? Or additional charges for over a certain size, like Lynnie said?

Love my dress and it is not altered. I cannot remember what size it is but I usually wear a 14 but it was much higher than that

So I'm not PS but my best friend is, she found her dress by Morilee (which mine is as well and all of that brand is pretty much ahmazing) and hers was about $1k. Possibly a little less. She looked stunning!

I knew from the beginning i wanted to be different. My dress is by Mori Lee And i knew i wanted this dress when i first found it online. when i went to store they didnt have it but i was so confident i would love it i just ordered it. Once ir arrived after the first try one i knew this. Was the one. Dont feel defeated by what you see online. Try many styles not just what you think you should wear. You will be amazed at what can work for you.

Alterations costs depend mostly on the amount of labor involved. Keep that in mind when trying on dresses. Depending on the fabric and design of the dress, some alterations are going to be more time consuming than others. I knew I wanted a lace hem on the bottom of my dress. But I also knew going that route was going to make it expensive to hem since they generally have to take the lace off, cut the hem and then put it all back on. Thankfully my consultant suggested I order the dress with a hollow to hem measurement. It cost a little extra to do so, but it was nothing close to what I would have had to spend to have my dress hemmed! The more decoration on the dress (lace, beading, etc) the more expensive it could be to alter.

I am in between a 14 and a 16 in regular clothes, but ordered an 18 for my wedding dress. My consultant went with the size that matched my largest measurement (my bust), although I was a 16 with all of the other measurements, but that's where alterations will come in handy (easier to take stuff in than take it out). My dress is an Essense of Australia gown, and it cost $1400. It wasn't any extra to order a larger size. I know that I might have to take in the waist, and I would like to add some cups so I don't have to wear a bra... not sure what that will cost in terms of alterations, but hopefully not too much. Really, you just have to get out there and look at dresses in person, it is less intimidating once you're actually holding them in your hands. My budget was on the higher end, $2k (not including alterations), and I was surprised by how most dresses I tried on were in the $800-1600 range, and that was at a semi-fancy, local boutique. Also-- some of the sample dresses were like a 6 or an 8 and I somehow managed to get into them just enough to get an idea of what it would look like. It wasn't the most fun (I felt like I had just completed a marathon at the end of the day), but at least I wasn't left feeling like it would be impossible to find something. All in all, best of luck to you OP!

This is the top of mine, the bottom is similar to Jaime K's dress. I wear a 14/16 jeans and this dress is a size 20 at a local boutique. I found that sweet heart top looked best on my body and a body fitting dress. I have big hips/thighs and no boobs lol.

In non-bridal size, I usually am a size 10-12 but my wedding dress was a size 16W.

I love mine! I'm very conscious about having big boobs, so I loved the coverage, especially with the full back, makes me feel much more supported!

I ordered my dress (moonlight bridal) in the same size I normally wear (24), I carry most of my weight in my belly, and the ball gown shape seemed more forgiving as I am not particularly large chested. I went to a plus size salon which was a really great experience. My dress came in last week and I will pick it up tomorrow, I hope I can take some much better pictures.
