Let Me See Your Dresses: Plus Size Edition

IronMaiden, on May 10, 2017 at 3:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 102

I'd love to see your plus size wedding dresses! I will be starting my dress shopping in July and I'm having a hard time finding dress inspiration online. I'd love to see some plus size dresses that aren't on models. Show me your gorgeous curves, ladies!

So this isn't me in the picture, this is the DB Model, but it really does fit me well. I'm a size 18 in a dress (generally) and we bought a size 18 and will have very, very few alterations. If I was at home I could post a photo of me in the dress. I was really lucky with my dress. I found the Oleg Cassini at David's Bridal but didn't want to pay the David's Bridal price. So we scoured the internet and a lady about 45 minutes from us was selling hers, in my size, unaltered, with the veil, under skirts, shoes, and extra belt for half the price. I would HIGHLY recommend going to bridal shops to try on and figure out what you want, and then looking into consignment shops or online to find one unused/slightly used. I know some people think that's weird, but it did save a lot of money. Especially because it was all NWT so we could literally see the "deal" we were getting.

Bad lighting in the room. I'm about a size 18, the dress was a size 22. Don't be shocked, Bridal runs that way

I'm not what you'd call "curvy" - just chunky, haha. Street size 16/18. Dress is from DB and I'm totally in LOVE! *heart eyes*

Please pardon my derp face, my mom caught me mid sentence. I wear size 16 jeans, and I think the dress is a size 20, but I can't remember. Haven't taken it in for any alterations yet.

I am loving seeing all these beautiful dresses. I honestly was dreading dress shopping. Just regular clothes shopping is painful enough. I almost had a breakdown with the first couple dresses, she asked my size and I told her 16, and I do have very wide hips, couldn't even pull the first dress up all the way, then the second dress wouldn't zip. She had put me in a size 14. After that she put me in a mermaid and when I saw my reflection I actually felt pretty, and the dress made me feel skinny and not frumpy. I wasn't expecting such a pleasant experience, aside from the too small dresses...

    Street size 14.

Dress- Stella York #6219 size 20.

Don't be afraid of the tag. Wedding dresses run extremely small. Couldn't have picked a better job. I'm seriously in love with every penny. Love it.

I got mine from Luxe bridal. At the time of this photo this dress was a size 24 (when I was a street size 20) but I ordered a 26. Now I'm a street size 16 so once my dress comes in it will have to be taken in. I love it so much because I felt beautiful JUST the way I was in that dress. I didn't think "oh it will look good once I lose some weight here" I though damn this is beautiful right now in this very moment. It's NOTHING like what I thought I would get and honestly when I saw it on the hanger I was so underwhelmed. It's true when they say you wear the dress and that it doesn't wear you.

Thank you, ladies! I feel so much better after seeing all of your gorgeousness! The dress part is stressing me out the most with wedding planning. I never even feel comfortable in what I wear on a day to day basis and now I have to wear a dress in front of tons of people looking at (and probably judging in some ways) it.

Did you ladies find that you had a lot of options to try from at the shops you went to? I'm nervous that I'll find tons of dresses I love but can't try on because the samples aren't big enough, even if the designer offers extended sizes. Did you just take a leap of faith or did you purchase one from a sample that you had on?

I'm a street size 22 on top and 24 on bottom. I have a pear shape and a small waist and very large hips/butt. I love my shape, but I am very self conscious of certain things that that same shape gives me (a big belly).

Luckily I was already aware of the fact that wedding dress sizing is different so thank goodness that won't be a shock when I go in to the shop and they tell me I'm actually a size 30 (which is what I am in Lillian West sizes- my favorite designer).

Now I'm just babbling. I'm nervous. And I have anxiety. Whew.

    Thanks again for the photos!

Here is mine before having any alterations done. Bought it in a size 18 because of the boobs, but had it taken in pretty much everywhere else. I'm generally a size 12
