Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Nessa, on June 5, 2016 at 4:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

So, we are from Florida (as are all of our guests) and we will be having a destination wedding in TN (note December date.)

I think it would be really sweet to have fake snow fall on us during our first dance. I know some may consider this tacky and I can understand that for everyone North of Florida, but knowing my crowd they'll all be in awe as so many have never experienced snow, and I know they'll be hoping to see some in TN mountains although they may not on our date. Anyways, I have heard of evaporating snow, so that it never touches the ground and makes it slippery. However, I have no idea where to find these.

When I search online I see really big heavy equipment and lots of lingo I don't recognize. Any suggestion on how and what to search for?

Have you consulted with your venue on this idea? Some venues have strict restrictions. On the flip side, they might have ideas to help you out.

My one and only experience with a snow machine was not all that enchanting. The "snow" is more like soap bubbles and had a huge build up of suds at the machine. The "snow" didn't hit the ground and evaporated however it did fall on us which was annoying as every space a "snowflake" touched was wet.

This is a pic of the venue. I'm hoping we'll be able to place it up top.

This is an idea I'm exploring. I'll bring up to them once I have the basics worked out... Like if I can even rent one of these machine, what they look/sound like, and how much they cost.

Trying to get you pics of the area in between the rise of the ceiling where I'm hoping we'd be able to put it.

Ah I remember you. You were the one who originally wanted to make everyone stand outside for your ceremony.

Just take a few pix in the snow and let go of this idea already. Your romantic dreams are nice but reality doesn't quite match up like that.

Thanks @Sarah, maybe I'll bring it up.

Of course, this isn't something I'm adamant about. Just exploring the idea. This is one of the videos I've seen it used in that I really like:

A quick Google search shows prices anywhere from $130-$1000. I searched "snow machine rentals in Tennessee". Not sure if that's just renting or buying or what though.

@janeen you must have me confused with someone else.

I don't anticipate to have snow on our wedding date. It could happen of course, we can't control the weather but the planner says their heavy snow season is more into January/February.

If it does happen to snow, we'll just have the room (pictured) flipped.

Furthermore, my "romantic" dreams are mine. I don't understand what the problem is with my looking into making them possible if I have the time and finances to do so. It doesn't break any etiquette rules, or improperly host guests.

My question was whether anyone knew more about this and where/how I can search these machines.

I thought this was part of what the forums were for.

@ericka that may very much be the case, it is TN, it is Dec. and it is in the mountains. We have back up plans in case it does. They do set up very nicely inside if it does, and it would only take 15min to flip the room (our guest list is small.) The planner just told me not to stress t because if it does, it will probably be light.

And we get the venue the entire day. If we learn there is snow coming in as can move everything up or down as necessary. Since guests will only be closest family and friends, all staying onsite it would be easy to work out.

Although, to be honest, I'm a little confused as to why I've had to explain any of this. My question was really quite a simple one.

Just curious, if you're having a destination wedding anyway and want snow that badly, why have it in TN instead of somewhere further north that's almost guaranteed to either have snow or make snow?

LOL @ericka my family is concerned about 40 degree weather, let's not even talk about snow! Haha I have all the backups just in case.

Don't get me wrong, the possibility of snow does make me a little nervous but she said not to stress it. I'm anxious to see what this year's whether will be around my date.

What area are you from? We'll be marrying in Sevierville.

Oh I misread. I totally thought you meant real snow. Fake snow is up to the venue and whoever has to clean up. If they're okay with it, who is anyone else to say anything?

But honestly....this does seem a bit on the cheesy side. Do what you want, and what the venue will allow. I doubt they would allow a snow machine inside, since those are loud, very wet, and messy. But fake, confetti snow? They might not care.

It's okay @janeen. Oh fake confetti snow, didn't know about it, I'll look into it.

I can get how it may seem cheesy but honestly... People in Miami go to a mall in December to watch fake snow for 10minutes. Lol I'd have it on once our first chorus hits and off at the end of our dance and that will be the end of it.
