Less than 30 days and no Wedding Dress?!!

Lidia, on March 24, 2009 at 1:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Ever since I have started planning our wedding I have been relatively calm and I have enjoyed every moment. I ordered my dress in Oct soon after we got engaged and I was told that my dress would come the end of Feb or beginning of March. So I though Ok no big deal we still have a month for alterations. However, my dress has not arrived!!! I was informed that the manufacturer is backed up on their orders for a couple weeks and there is an order that is going to come in and it includes my dress....but I've hearing this story for the past 2-3 weeks!!! I have informed the boutique that my wedding date is soon and they are aware of it but now I'm starting to get into panic mode....but what should I do? is there anything that I can do? Help?!!! Should I start looking for alternatives????

I'm so sorry for you, that's horrible! I have this nightmare about my dress. I don't have experience about what you should do with the bridal boutique, did you sign something about the date your dress would come in? If they promised something like that, or a timeframe, you might at least beable to recover your money. I would keep calling them, trying to get updates. I might also start looking for an alternative. You might find that when you start looking for something else, the other one may show up. Appeal to Craiglist brides in your area, someone may give you a great deal on a new dress. Maybe some even has something similar.

    Good luck!

Wow!!! you just got me really nervous about mine which is arriving only 2 weeks before my wedding. What i can say is that when i bought my dress at a boutique the receipt said the specific date in which it would arrive. I think you can definitely get your money back or else go over there and throw a bridezilla tantrum.

Also, i think you should maybe start looking around for another dress that you can get off the shelf but dont buy it yet until like 2 weeks before the wedding when you have just enough time to get it altered by someone and cleaned for your wedding day. It would be horrible if your dress arrives and then you have two though....

I wish you the best of luck!!!!!!

Yeah I remember that my invoice doesn't have a delivery date. It only says that it takes 16 - 20 weeks for it to arrive. The good thing that the owner of the boutique has been responsive and has been on top of it. It's really the manufacturer that is falling behind. The relief was she told me that my dress is in the next shipment, we just have to wait for it to arrive....

    Thank you ladies for listening!!

Oh wow! I'm so sorry to hear that! If it is any consolation, most bridal shops will do rush alterations -- i.e., alterations done within 2 weeks of a wedding -- although they charge an extra fee for the rush. The alterations are the same quality, they just have to be rushed. But just in case you dress doesn't come in until like 2 weeks before your big day, you should still have time to get it altered, it just might cost you more. I hope this doesn't happen, but good luck!

The last post is correct at least with my bridal shop. One thing though I would demand they waive any rush alteration fees!! I know they are just the shop and the manufacturer is at fault but the owners rep relies on happy clients and she may have to re-evaluate their reliability, as far as shipments goes. Why should you pay for their short comings.I would not pay any rush fee's.

I agree don't pay for rush fees. I would even ask for some kind of gift (e.g. jewelry, gloves) for your inconvience...all they can say is no.

I had the same issue except, my dress never got ordered by the boutique. I ordered it back in Sept. 08 and was told it would arrive in Dec. I waited until Jan. to check thinking that maybe it was delayed because of the holidays. Well - NOT! I called the boutique and they never ordered it. They apologized and put in a rush order. I received it about two weeks ago. The boutique is giving me a store credit for the inconvenience - so it all worked out at the end

I am so sorry that you are having trouble with your dress. I have gotten a dress online and when it came in i absolutly hated it . I dont have much time until the wedding so i decided i would go to davids bridal and get an alternative dress. I found the perfect dress loved it even more so then the pictures of the first one i needed absolutly no alterations other than the bustle that my mother is doing and i got to take it home that day. Many bridal shops have dresses that you can take home that day without ordering i would go and try to find a dress like that.

Thanks girls! I agree I shouldn't be able to pay for rush alterations. Hopefully my dress comes in soon!

Thanks again for all of your support!
