Length of processional song

OregonEmily, on July 8, 2014 at 5:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

We have no bridal party, no ring bearer and no flower girls. So we will only take about 20 seconds or so to get down the aisle. I see the following options in regard to dealing with a too long song:

1) Just cut the music off once we are at the end of the aisle. Don't worry about ending the music at a specific point.

2) Attempt to find an appropriate length "excerpt" from the song, so it has a more natural conclusion.

3) Let the song play from the beginning and rehearse in an attempt to finish walking down the aisle approximately when the song ends.

I'm probably over-thinking this, but I don't want the music to sound weird or cut off.

I was assuming we could just let the recessional song continue into dinner, so that's less of an issue.

How are you handling your ceremony music?

We did number one, and the person in charge of the music slowly turned it down to give a fade-down affect rather than an abrupt halt.

I like one with EricaTx's idea of fading the music. I am getting so excited for you! 3 weeks!!!

We do have a party-- so we are playing the entire song (only a couple minutes). it will keep guests seated...or standing... until we go back up and receive them.

I also think Erica's idea of the fade out is the best option! I knew I was overlooking something! So much better than fiddling with trying to time it perfectly. Thank you!

Rigby- Dude. It's coming up so freaking fast. I'm weirdly calm (and I shouldn't be with everything I have left to do)

I agree, just have the music fade out. If you guys don't have a DJ, just have them slowly reduce the volume -- nothing fancy is required Smiley smile

@Milwaukee- Aww thanks! You're too sweet! I think my legit BAM will take a while because my photographer takes her sweet time editing photos. But I'm sure I'll get some non-pro pics up pretty quickly.

You know what? I hadn't even thought about this!

We are having a string trio play so I'll probably leave it in their hands, lol.

Are you having a DJ...they can probably either fade it, or maybe with advance notice, can cut a shorter version. I need to contact my DJ...there is a song I want for during the ceremony, but it's sort of long and I don't want everyone to be all awkward waiting for the song to end.

Maybe you could use something soft, or without words to trail into your ceremony?

My FH's daughter is singing "From this Moment On" as I walk down the aisle. She keeps saying that it is a "long" song. I don't care. I love the words and it will take however long it takes! I'll wait at the back of the church until part way through and if I get to the front before she's done, then I'll wait! So my answer is: if the song is something that has meaning, I would just enjoy it!

Went to a wedding recently and the bride did #1 (Just cut the music off once we are at the end of the aisle. Don't worry about ending the music at a specific point). It was fine if you ask me. She used the same song for both walking down the aisle and for when her, husband and bridal party walked out of the ceremony.

I am also having an issue with this. My wedding party is very small. We will have a violinist. Any suggestions? She will be playing "A Thousand Years" upon my entrance.

If you have live musicians they should know how to gracefully end a song. If you're having someone play recorded music, fade-out is your best option unless there is a particular reason to have the whole song play. As a ceremony pianist, I have always had to shorten the processional.

If your on your own its tuff. A DJ would do a proper fade down at the right moment to make it sound smooth.

Maybe speak to your DJ to see what they can help with. We sometimes even do pre produced Fade outs in songs for people and just have it fade at 20s, 30s, 40s.

FH found a fantastic instrumental version of John Legend's All of me and that's what we plan on using (eeeek goose bumps thinking about it)... He's a little bit of a music snob and wants it to be perfectly cut (i'm not overly picky)

SOOOO we are going to be in the Dominican for another DW (at another resort) in April and FH suggested we go visit our resort... bring a speaker and a stop watch... and practice! HAHAHAHA can you imagine the other beach go-ers watching this madness unfold?! Two randoms in bathing suits pretending to walk down the aisle? I'm sure I will have an entertaining story when we return Smiley smile

I was totally stressing about this too but as soon as I talked with my DJ he echoed what others have said about fading the song out. Isn't it crazy what little things get us so worked up?
