Left handed-ness and rings being annoying?

FutureMrsAF, on March 20, 2017 at 1:53 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 37

If you are left handed (I am) do you ever find that your rings get in the way?

I'm strongly considering switching and wearing them on my right hand as I don't think there is any rule that I have to wear it on my left Smiley winking I understand where the tradition stems from, but tradition can suck it because these rings are always in my way. If I'm just wearing my band (I have a claddagh band that I've been wearing with my ering in the "engaged" position), it doesn't bother me and is comfortable but I don't want to just wear my wedding band all the time.

What do you left handers do?

Lefty too. It actually doesn't bother me at all except I wore my full set for a full day last week and I feel like the extra work my left hand does makes my set shift and I am for sure getting it soldered

I'm a lefty, and I think that's part of why I'm so hard on my rings. This time around I just picked a super durable ring.

Lefty here as well. I write a lot in my job so I find myself switching it to my right hand a lot during the day. I do feel like I'm really hard on my ring though since it's on my dominant hand.

In Norway we wear wedding rings on the right hand! Same with Sweden and a few other countries too, you could just claim some Scandinavian heritage Smiley smile

Umm, Anndrea, I just have to say, you wear your Norwegian heritage as beautifully as women of Swedish heritage. You're so beautiful. And now, back to the issue at hand...

LOL, I'm not left handed, but my daughter is. When she was married, she had those issues, but her biggest issue has nothing to do with rings -- she's always seated next to right handed people at receptions, lunches, and dinners, and her left elbow is always making best friends with a random right elbow.

If you wear a smooth band, and put your more detailed, engagement ring on your right hand (which is totally acceptable), you'll never notice an issue. However, if you want to wear both rings on your right hand, nobody is going to judge or correct you. You're just as married, and the proof of it is on your ring finger -- left or right.

I'm a lefty but my ring doesn't really bother me. That could be because I'm used to wearing rings on both hands though. If you want to wear it on your right hand go for it. It's whatever is comfortable for you.

The lefty struggle is real! I may do what Rachel suggested and keep my engagement ring on the right hand when we get married. Have definitely noticed my ring gets caught up on my pants a lot because when I keep things in my pocket, I naturally want to do that on my left side.

@Anndrea, I actually do think I have some Scandinavian in me! Haha, this is a great idea. I didn't know that people wore them on the right in Norway! Smiley smile

@Rachel, I've considered that as well as my band doesn't bother me, but I love how they look together Smiley smile I may just get a simple silver band for the left hand and wear the set on the right as I think inside me I'm still tugged to the tradition of "I have to have something on my left hand". :sigh:

Glad I'm not alone in this!

I am ambidextrous. I write and use a fork with my left hand and I do everything else with my right hand. It is annoying no matter which hand its on so I stick with left.

Leftie here! I'm actually a little weird though because I wear my ering on my right hand and keep my wedding band on the left (they don't stack well). I don't find that my wedding band gets in the way too much, although maybe it's because it's lower profile than most wedding sets would be. It does sometimes catch on fabrics, which is super annoying, but I think that would happen no matter what hand I wear it on.

I'm left-handed as well - no major issues. The only issue I have is that because that's my dominant hand and my ring is a little big, sometimes it spins and then it's annoying. Otherwise, nope, no issue. I do take it off if I'm doing yard/barn work or anything where I use my hands a lot - but that's mostly out of concern of damaging it.

I'm not lefty - I don't notice an issue but I can't wear my real e ring to work, I have to wear a QALO.

I'm a right hander, but my ring still drives me nuts. I wanted a flatter ring, but FH insisted that he got me something raised. I love my ring, but I'm constantly scratching FH and getting it tangled in blankets, getting stuck in my pants pockets, and smacking walls. Eventually, you will remember subconsciously it is there and naturally move around things

I'm left handed and the only problem I have is that I can't stop looking at my ringing every time I'm writing Smiley smile

Lefty here! I only notice it every once in a while. But, yeah, I think I would not notice as much if I were right handed.

Wear your rings in whatever hand you want. If you want right hand just make sure officiant is aware of this change in your ceremony.

Lefty here too. Yes I end up clicking it a lot on my desk and such lol but I am still willing to wear it on my left hand. I think it's totally acceptable though to wear it on the right hand Smiley smile so off topic bit the biggest struggle I have is FH teasing me and saying things like "you have to sit on my left side. I don't want you bumping me while I eat because I WILL bump back." Lol he kids but yeah seriously that is the worst thing, sitting next to a right handed person and bumping elbows!
