Layaway, Or No Layaway?

Mrs. A. Fernandez, on September 28, 2013 at 6:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

How many of you chose layaway for your wedding rings? If you did, how was the experience? My fh and I are going to go and look at some rings soon, but, we were going to try layaway. How does that work, for those that may know?

We went just to look and found our rings in 5 minutes. We put them on layaway at Zales and so far so good.

I didn't use it for rings, but aren't there traditionally fee's charged for layaway? So in the end you end up paying more than you would have if you saved and waited to purchase? I don't know, just look into that and make sure you aren't paying more by using layaway.

We ordered my husbands wedding band from amazon. Solid gold and beautiful for less than a jewelry store, just a suggestion of other options (although he wanted SUPER plain, if he wanted jewels or something, I would have gone through a jeweler.

We did a Zales lawayway for my bands, we love it because there was really no deadline to pay it off and you could pay in what ever amounts you could afford

We have a layaway at J B Robinson (which is affiliated with Kay Jewelers) and the experience was great. They do ask if you want to apply for credit but we said we prefer layaway. You can put down as little as $100 ( we did more) and make monthly payments. They inform you of every sale and if you pay in full they apply the current sale price. They also have a promotion called Bridal Bucks. My rings cost more than his so as long as we pay for my rings by Dec 24th, we get a $100 for every $300 increment on the price of my rings. That comes off the price of his ring. We have to wait until Feb to get his ring but then in addition to the $100 vouchers, we can get more off for the Valentines Day sale.

There is no additional fee attached to our layaway. We added the lifetime warranties on each ring but there are no other fees (I checked the math AND receipt to be sure before answering). Usually the fees come with stores Like Walmart or Kmart and even then it's a $5 charge - unlike applying for credit where you incur interest fees if you can't pay it off in a year and you have to pay a certain amount every month. As bride Raven stated you are not held to a set amount every month. I hope it helps :-)

Layaway was fine with me. We actually got 2 3 piece sets. We have the first ones now. After the down payment we made 3 more. There was another set that were the rings of my dreams so about a week ago we began payments on those. Before the wedding the first set are going to be returned for a percentage off the second set. Anything to make my life a little easier.Whatever you do go with your first mind.

My FH kind of did for mine - it was custom made and he was paying at the jeweler made it. For our wedding bands, we'll pay cash. I hate owing anyone money.

Ours will be custom made, so they don't do layaway on them. We're just going to purchase them outright.

We did layaway at Jared's. Put $250 down and are paying every month. It's a 12 month layaway with no additional fees.

The fees are always going to be less than any interest you would be charged by financing on credit. Layaway is a great option and is making a comeback in retail sales in general.

Our last year vacation was really awesome because we planned it very well and used layaway too. In these difficult times, many may find they do not have enough readily available cash to take a getaway this year. Do not be disheartened. You can now pay for them in installments. If you need help making your last payment, get it from https://personalmoneynetwork.com/.
