Late Night Snack Question

FaithD_2017, on March 22, 2017 at 3:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

Happy Hump Day everyone!

FH and I are really excited to add late night snacks to the menu and are thinking of having them served/brought out around 9 pm.

The ceremony will be at 4:30, dinner will be about 6:40 and due to sound restrictions the music stops at 10:45 but we can move the party inside if we'd like.

My question is should we plan for everyone to stay (around 160 people) to have enough food or is there a way for us to estimate a different number? I want to make sure everyone that wants food, gets some, but I don't want to run out or have too much.

Thank you!

(The picture is a possible contender of chicken and crepe "waffles" with Sriracha maple syrup Smiley laugh)

Plan for everyone to stay. It would be rude if everyone DID stay, but you only had enough for half. Plan for more Smiley smile

It was very good!! We're having a final tasting in a few months to try a few other things and lock down our menu. It's so exciting to try new things.

ETA: @Kristine, that's what I was planning but FH doesn't want to waste the food. I don't think 9 is too late for people to stay out on a Saturday night.

    Following!

We have a similar timeline. We are ending at 10 pm though....

I am debating having SEVERAL appetizers during cocktail hour OR a late night snack!

Food is my favorite topic, but man it is hard to plan for the masses Smiley smile

@Jenna, it's so hard because I don't want to waste food but I also want there to be enough for everyone! We are doing 2 selections so there will be double of whatever our total is, but just in case people don't like one thing and take two of another, we don't want to fall short.

I'd plan on like 80% of people staying! I am kind of a tight wad when it comes to this stuff, but this will allow some people to take more than one, some people to not have anything, and some people to leave!

My future in-laws are pushing hard for doing this, as SIL had it at her wedding and it was *CLUTCH* when people had been drinking/dancing for hours. Better to err on the side of having too much food instead of too little food.

Hi There...planning something similar but not until late late...11, so we figured there will be family (grandparents, folks with little ones) not attending. Our catering manager said to figure 2-3 late night bites p/p but I went on the heavier side and doing 4 p/p. We invited 100 to wedding and expecting 60 for late night party.

Our package includes a late night snack for every guest whether they are there or not. So it's just a good idea to plan for everyone.

@Victoria, that sounds like a pretty good plan! I'm definitely a foodie and will be eating that night! No way are we going to pay for all of that food and not be able to eat it!

Ask how many items come per serving. For example; We decided to only order for 50 of the bloody mary oyster shooters because not everyone eats them, but they make 3 servings for person so essentially we'll have 150 shooters. Just check with your caterer. After providing cocktail hour, dinner, and cake, your guests will appreciate the snack but won't be starving like at cocktail hour.

    ETA: BTW it looks delicious!

@Carolyn, I really wanted to have them because FH and I am always so hungry after any wedding we leave and since we are staying at the venue along with probably 20 other people, I don't want to have to worry about us all making something after.

@Katherine, what time are your ceremony and dinner being held?

@SullivanToBe, it was really yummy! But sadly FH doesn't like anything spicy so we have to choose a different option; which is harder than you'd think! Do we go casual like pizza? Or keep with the theme and have something we wouldn't eat on a day to day basis?

@Jaclyn, what a great package!! We added on for $4 per person per selection, so an extra $8.

@Catlady, mmmm I love donuts!! I'm sorry you can't do it, I was pretty adamant about wanting it but FH didn't put up too much of a fight. His only concern is having enough people for the amount we get, but to be honest I would eat more than my fair share if I could!

We're having a food truck come in. We are allowed to get whatever we want. I'm doing grilled cheese sandwiches (because who doesn't love cheese besides FH), fries, and some other sort of slider. Still deciding between meatball, pulled pork or chicken. Too many options for drunk food!I feel your struggle!

@Chelsea, it will probably be something meal-like; pizza, tacos, burger(?), or something like the chicken and waffles so it would be just one portion. Unless we can figure out something else that includes more food, like nachos or....yeah that's all I have!

That looks sooo good! I would plan for 100% to be on the safe side.

We're having late night Poptails (Popsicle with alcohol!) from an amazing vendor I found here in WW! I'm so excited!

@Sullivan, we were thinking of doing an In n Out Burger food truck but it has to be booked a year in advance, oops!

ETA: We can also get In n Out Burger whenever we want so it wouldn't really be a treat.

We're having a late night sausage cart. We're having 175 guests and we're doing the cart for 125 to take into consideration people who might leave early or just might not have one

I know a lot of vegetarians. I'm not, but I wouldn't eat meat, or anything spicy (pizza), or fried/greasy cheesesteaks) that late at night.

We had a dessert bar, which kept guests on a sugar high, and on the dance floor.
