Late Night Reception Snack

Sam, on February 21, 2021 at 5:24 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
Hi y’all!

Has anyone done a late night reception snack? My venue offers a few different options but are EXPENSIVE. My fiancé and I would hate to spend so much for the venue to provide the snacks especially if it really isn’t a hit. We’d prefer to do something ourselves at a low cost. I would love to hear about some low budget/ out of the box ideas. Also has anyone done a late night snack and have it be a big flop?
Thanks in advance 💕

If your venue allows outside food, you could always order some pizzas

Never attended a wedding with a late night snack beyond leftover cake and dinner. From the posts via the search feature on the topic it seems the only time it was a flop was when when the couple chose to serve dinner late (8pm or later) and snack immediately after.

Have a local fast food place you love deliver. For example: Order a ton of cheeseburgers from McD's/Jack in the Box or tacos from Taco Bell. Even Pizza Hut or Dominos is great and will soak up alcohol.

We had a late night which was a nacho bar. We made the mistake of not telling people about it before dinner was served and didn't really communicate to everyone it was put out. We should've better communicated to our guests that there would be a nacho bar. As for doing something yourself, you'd have to check with your venue if they will allow you to do so. I know our venue didn't allow outside food because it would've been a liability and a lot of venues don't for this very reason.

    Hi!

I appreciate you sharing your experience and advice! I didn’t even think about bringing in outside food being an issue for our venue “duh” I will have to check!

If your venue allows it, I second the idea of ordering some greasy food (pizza, mozzy sticks, garlic knots, fries, chicken fingers, etc) from a local place. I was thinking about doing something similar, because who doesn’t love a fist full of French fries during/after a night of drunken dancing? It’s a great idea to look into!

Also- how big would your wedding be? If it’s an end of the night thing where you think there may only be a few dozens people still hanging around, you can order based on how many are still left. Ex: oh there’s only 30 people still here, let’s order x pizzas and a y sides. That way you don’t over-order and waste money! Of course there’s a limit on how big of an order you can place for immediate delivery, but if the group is small enough, it’s an option.

If you're doing favors you can always do like something sweet and something salty. That way people can snack if they want or have something to take with them? My best friend had boxes of macaroons. Deeelish

Drunk people will literally eat anything. My friend put out bags of chips and that was great for us. By far the best was the charcuterie platter my cousin put out--and you could make that yourself beforehand at relatively low cost

All the weddings I've been to recently have had them, but I think they were all barely touched. I think it's a good idea, but maybe do something easy that people can pick at rather than having to commit to a whole slice of pizza or big burger.

We're having soft pretzels with beer cheese dip and mustard dip. I seriously can't wait! Just because I know wine-drunk me will be very happy. We're having dinner around 6:15 and then they will set up the pretzels around 8. So just enough of a gap where people have been dancing and drinking and want more food. I would make sure they do that at your venue if you decide to do it.

Also -- to make sure it isn't a flop, announce the late night snack. Have your DJ do this and then also, if you're doing a program or timeline of the evening (even on your wedding website), mention the late night snack.

We ordered huge bags of popcorn - regular and kettle corn - that was put out a couple hours after dinner. There were still some apps and cupcakes out so people were grabbing those all night too. We chose popcorn because all our friends LOVE when bars we go to have it available for free.

Other things i've seen are nachos and pizza.
