Last two weeks before my big day; Advice?

Molly, on August 21, 2020 at 12:50 PM Posted in Community Conversations 2 19

My wedding will officially be two weeks away tomorrow! I have finished all my DIYs, Boy was there a lot of them. Everything is finalized, final payments have been made, hair and makeup has been practiced, cake layers have been baked and frozen, marriage license is ready, wedding party gifts are wrapped, thank you cards to our vendors and wedding party are written, map of decor has been drawn up, dress still fits, final seating chart made.

All I need to do write my vows, do my nails, frost and build my wedding cake the day before the wedding, and put my day of bag together.

Am I forgetting anything? What do you wish you would have done in the last two weeks before your wedding?

I'm really bad about doing things for myself, but I am going to try! I drug everything out last night and made a detailed inventory list for each box Smiley smile

My biggest advice is to make sure everything is organized in boxes and the boxes labeled with what's inside. I would also put your invites, jewelry, shoes, etc. in one box that you can hand to your photographer for detail photos as soon as they arrive.

My husband and I did a nice date night the week before our wedding (massages, pedicures and a nice dinner). I would definitely take time to step away from the craziness of everything. Also don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. For example, my mom tried to invite my extended family to get their nails done with us the day before the wedding. I told my mom that I wanted to keep it small so that it was a calm gathering and that she needed to tell my extended family since she was the one that invited them.

Sounds like you've got everything pretty well covered! I was going to suggest the same thing Melle suggested, either a spa day or a day with all fun and no wedding tasks. The beach, movie night, schedule an appointment for a massage, go for a hike, etc. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!

I have everything super organized in boxes with laminated inventories on the out side of each box. I'm a little ocd about that stuff lol. The box of shoes, jewelry etc. is a great idea! I never thought about that. A date night sounds great! My FH has been working 21 days straight of 12 hour shifts so I have barley seen him. He will finally be off the Monday before our wedding, we will definitely need some time together. I am a people pleaser, but I am trying to be more stern about sticking up for myself. Thank you for all the suggestions!

Wear sunscreen though! I went to the beach the day before my wedding and had a bad sunburn that thankfully calmed down from lobster red a little bit by the next day, but the lines definitely didn't suit my dress.

Not sure if you are interested but I just tried a spray on tan from Sephora and it works great to cover tan lines! I would recommend using a tanning glove to rub it in though!

This is the one that a bought. It's a little pricey but I love how it looks. I use it like on my arms, legs, and chest area/ neck. It seriously looks good all day long! I put it on before work (7AM) and ever since I started using it my FH cannot see a difference until I shower when some of washes off. I don't tan well so I bought this!

If you can, spend the entire day two days before the wedding with your fiancé doing as little wedding related stuff as possible. We spent most of the day playing games in a park we were pretending was a beach.

It sounds like you probably have everything covered, but just for peace of mind, make a list of everything that will happen the day before and the day of the wedding. Write down everything you need for each scheduled item and the activity that is associated with it (example: 9:30am, hair and makeup appointment. I need lipstick. 4pm, caterer arrives. We need to set up tables for the food to go on and have silverware to eat with). Buy or make a plan for anything you don't have and could, even potentially, need. Even as someone who makes a lot of lists, this was the first time I had used this particular format for a list, and it felt really helpful. I ended up buying a few things that we would've been okay without, but I was glad to have them. If you find that you don't need anything, you really are prepared! After going through your lists and buying anything you need or confirming that you don't need anything, schedule a small amount of time where no one is allowed to talk to you the night before and/or the day of the wedding. Just being able to sit alone for about 15 minutes before the wedding, knowing that everything was going the way I expected it to was a very good feeling.

P.S. your vows will probably take longer than you think they will. We worked on ours on two separate nights despite the fact that we already had 3 pages of them written and only needed 5 lines.

I’m a list maker too. We are doing everything DIY so the two days before the wedding I will be making our cake and arranging flowers but I set aside the night before the wedding to spend some time alone to reset and relax. Thanks for the tips 😊

So a thing I did that was eminently NOT smart a few weeks before my wedding:

I walked to work in the pouring rain in suede shoes and no socks.

    Cue blisters.

    So. Um.

Be aware of what shoes you are putting on your feet.
