Last Month Beauty Routine?

MrsD, on June 19, 2019 at 1:17 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 3 63

We have 1 month left! We just started our "clean" eating diet and are both continuing our workout routines. I'm getting botox & extractions next week, and dermaplanning/O2 facial/lash lift & tint exactly 1 week prior. I'm starting at home teeth whitening 2 weeks prior. Here are my questions:

1. I'm bed tanning (I know, not good for me). How soon do I start? Do I start now and go for very short periods and build a steady/slow tan? Do I go 2 weeks prior every day? I've tanned before, so I know I won't burn in level 2 beds for 8 minutes or less. I have tanning lotion & eye protection & nail protection.

2. I have body, face & lip exfoliants. I know they all work and don't cause reactions on my skin. My question is, how often do I use them? Weekly? Not until the week of the wedding? Daily?

3. Is a professional body scrub worth it?

4. I never get pedicures, I just get my fake claws done every 3 weeks. Has anyone done shellac pedicures? Are there other options besides traditional polish & shellac? Will I be okay getting those done the Thursday before our Saturday wedding along with my fake nails?

5. Do I really need to cut out dairy, salt, sugar & bread? I read that for the final week to prevent bloating. How important is that to do?

6. Waxing. I realize if I want to wax prior, I need to start growing out all my hair now (and it still may not be long enough 3.5 weeks from now). Is waxing really THAT much better than shaving? I've gotten a brazilian & underarm wax and I'm not sure if the pain is worth it again, or if I even have enough time for the hair to grow to wax length.

Hi date twin! The only one I really have an opinion on is #6. I like waxing. I haven't gotten it done in awhile, but I like it in the summer. Plus FH likes it. I am going today and then I am going again on July 17th. I think it lasts a lot longer than shaving. I don't like underarm waxing. I tried that once and it hurt a lot and was tender for well after the appointment.

For me when I hit the one month mark I started whitening my teeth and doing more face masks to moisturize my skin

Hey girl! YAY DATE TWINS! So you do feel like 3.5 weeks will be long enough growth for waxing? I just don't know if I'll be overwhelmed getting a brazilian, underarm, full arm & full leg?

I don't eat dairy at all because my body feels better when I don't, but if your body tolerates it than you'll be fine. We really didn't do anything special to prepare for our wedding than we normally did. We just got haircuts and I got a brow/lip/side burn wax that week so that my makeup would go on smoother. I opted to skip the Brazilian and underarm wax because I was concerned about ingrown hairs and didn't want to be uncomfortable.

I bed tanned before the wedding for about 2 weeks, and I probably went 5-7 times? I wanted to have color, but I didn't want to be really tan and have it look unnatural.

I have really sensitive/dry skin so I don't exfoliate unless I'm doing a spray tan/tanning lotion. I would doubt that a professional body scrub would be worth it to me.

I feel like regular polish lasts forever with a pedicure, so I would skip the gel. I feel like it would be impossible to get off. Plus, gel polish ruins my nails so I wouldn't do it more than I had to. I got mine done on a Thursday and my wedding was on that Saturday and it was totally fine.

Than you! I bought the two week white strips but maybe I'll buy another set & just do both, to make sure they are white? My teeth aren't too sensitive so the white strips are usually okay. My fiance is starting now since his teeth are SUPER sensitive and he can go slower than the typical every night whitening. I also use hyaluronic acid (however you spell it) every night to help with moisturizing, along with lotion & eye cream! Do you have any favorite masks? I'm not a huge sheet mask person, I prefer regular masks.

I always eat dairy, not a TON but things like cheese & milk pretty frequently. It doesn't upset my stomach or bloat me (that I've noticed), I've just seen a ton of things saying to avoid it the entire week of your wedding so I wasn't sure.

I'm hoping the dermaplaning will help with makeup going on smoother!

Good point about the wax, the last time I got an underarm wax I did get 1 ingrown hair so that would a bummer. To be fair I didn't scrub after like I should have.

Did you use any special tanning lotion or just a normal one?

I went on the highest level bed they offered (mostly because I just didn't have the time to go more than 5-7 times) and just used a "regular" bronzing lotion and an after tan lotion to help the tan stay longer!

That makes sense! I'm looking to be pretty tan. I tan easily so me being more tan wouldn't be a shocker or look weird. I'm thinking I'll start this week and go 3-4 times a week for the next month so I'm not rushed?

    1. Start tanning now doing slow increments, and building up. Trust me, I used to work at a tanning salon, and this is the best way. Plus, most places it's cheaper to buy a month package than 1-2 weeks.

    2. No opinion, as I do not use exfoliates or moisturizers on my face. Warm water only Smiley smile

    3. Never heard of it, sooooo again, no help. Sorry.

    4. Getting a pedicure the same time you do your nails (Thursday before Saturday) will be just fine.

    5. Seems extreme, but you do you.

    6. That is a personal choice...there is no way I'd do it, lol...ouch!

Thank you! You are totally right. I'll start going this week and tan for 5 minutes at a time, then slowly increase so there is no way I'll burn.

I thought the cut out dairy, salt, sugar, and bread seems extreme too? I literally have no idea what I would eat at that point hahaha! I just read it in several articles to do the week of, I wasn't sure if it was common or if it actually helped?

I used to work at a tanning salon. I am now the palest person on Earth lol. I would start early & at small increments. That way you won't get too red. I got a Brazilian once, honestly can say I don't think I would ever do it again. I think shaving is just fine. Exfoliants I'd use three-four times per week. That's my 2 cents! Smiley smile

Is an O2 facial a hydrafacial? I've gotten hydra's before and did dermaplaning, I actually saw better results with dermaplane lol. I so wish I could whiten my teeth but I fell on my face as a kid and have a fake tooth right in front lol.

Thank you! That seems to be the consensus for sure. I'll start this week & next going for 5 minutes at a time in a level 2 standing bed, then increase to 8 minutes or so. Maybe I'll go 3 times a week? Thank you for the exfoliant tip! No, an O2 facial is an oxygen facial. I tried a hydrafacial awhile ago and wasn't impressed. The O2 facial involves a machine that sprays atomized moisturizers onto the skin using a stream of pressurized oxygen. The treatment is supposed to hydrate skin immediately, making the face appear smoother and plumper. She recommended it, I asked what facial would be best!

A Thursday pedicure will be perfect! That’s when all my appointments are scheduled for - spray tan, wax, and nails! Shellac on your toes will last a very long time! That’s what I’m doing for our wedding and for my shower/bachelorette this weekend Smiley smile

Yay! So you like shellac & think it's worth it? I was assuming so, usually nail polish stays on pretty well I'm just assuming it will chip with swimming & hiking in Hawaii for our honeymoon!

Yes, I get shellac every time! I’m going with the dip powder on my fingernails for our wedding day for something different but it’s very similar to shellac.

It should stay on pretty well for your honeymoon! We’re going to Destin and I’m getting shellac on my toes. I’ve had this shellac on my toes for over 3 weeks, and it just grew out rather than chipping! I’ll save you from seeing a picture of my toes though 😂

Yeah I've heard great things about dip nails! I do fake acrylic nails, I have for the last 10 years pretty consistently. I just bite my nails & am SO hard on them it's pretty much the only option for me.

Hahahahaha! Thank you for the shellac tip though, I'll do it for sure!

That is a lot. I just do the full brazillian. I go to European Wax Center (they have them all over) and they recommend between 3-4 weeks so you should be good. They use a special type of hard wax though which I think is also less painful than the strips.

Good tip! I'll for sure think about it. I like the smoothness of waxing, I just got my underarms waxed a month ago and I got 1 ingrown hair. I've gotten a brazilian twice and the most recent time it took over an hour (soft wax) so I'm pretty hesitant to do it again since I felt like I almost died hahahaha!
