Last minute cancellations

Anonymous, on May 14, 2013 at 10:31 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Just looking for advice on last minute cancellations and looking to vent I guess. I am getting married this weekend and we got mist rsvps back and turned in the final numbers to the caterers and venue 3 weeks ago. We had about 48 guests at that time. Those that didn't rsvp were on the groom's side and I never had their addresses or phone numbers (groom's mother handled their invitations-long story). So yesterday we find out that the number goes from 48 to about 36 because most of the friends on his side have other plans. We are doing ceremony seating with no specific sides because there would otherwise be no one much there on his and my side would be mostly full. We lost about $300 dollars paying for people who are not coming and we lost 2 whole tables at the reception. We are paying for this all out of pocket so obviously I am upset. Some of them are on my fh's Facebook and could have advised him there that they were not going to attend. Lesson learned I guess. Has anyone else dealt with this and how did you handle it?

We had some last minute cancelations however they all had legitimate reasons. 2 were due to a death in their immediate family. 2 others were because they had just found out that their son was back on drugs and the stress of it was causing the husband to end up in the ER multiple times the week of our wedding.

If I had guests that canceled last minute or didn't show up just because they didn't feel like it or suddenly had better plans, I would be pissed. Unfortunately there isn't too much you can do about it. Just know that you will be celebrating with the people who truly want to be there.

Do you or your FH have any friends that you can asked? Why waste the money, I know I would at least try to reach out to some friends or family members that live close by.

    Thanks MrsO.

Some of the reasons are legit. Nothing health related though. I could never fault them for that. I agree, all we can do is enjoy the people who will be there and appreciate them.

We invited friends and family. We had cancellations 5 days out from that list. We don't want to invite random people 4 days till the event. Everyone we wanted to invite has been invited.

This is my worse fear. FH is convinced that his side will not send back their response cards, so I have it in my mind to call (multiple times) every guest that doesn't send back their RSVP. Last minute cancelations due to personal/family reason, I can handle. But simply not responding for the hell of it? I wish they would lol

Maybe just maybe someone will bring a date that they didnt tell you about....or I would spread people out to make it look like all the tables are full!! and look on the bright side....if people eat more then planned for..there will be enough.
