Last Hair cut/color before big day

sdgher, on June 22, 2015 at 10:23 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

When did you have yours? I haven't been able to find a stylist near me that I like. I have been bouncing around for the last 3 years!!! ugh. So I decided I was going to have the salon that is doing my wedding hair do my last cut/color before the wedding so that I could get to know them a little bit. When do people usually do this? I don't want to do it too early because I don't want it to fade (I have a red/brown hair color that fades fast) but I don't want to do it too close in case it looks bad or I don't like the color or something. Any suggestions?

I would talk to a stylist. Smiley smile My hairdresser always recommends a cut and color 2 weeks before the special event, so it has time to settle and grow on you. (And in case anything goes horribly wrong, so you have time to fix it!)

I was wondering the same thing! I think I'm just going to shoot a message to my stylist. It's a little different for me though, I've been going to her for about 5 years so I'm not worried about it turning out bad...

I would say to do a trial run at least with the color. You have enough time that if you do it now you can gauge how long it will take to settle into a color you like. It will also give you a peak at whether you like the salon or not for that.

@Randi - Yea i am going to shoot a message to the stylist but I fully expect her to say something about how I should come in ASAP and then again before the big day so she can get two times out of it. haha, maybe she won't, but I just wanted an unbiased opinion first.

I will have my cut 6 weeks before and my color 3 weeks before. My stylist reccomends 2-4 weeks before but unfortunately didn't have a block that could do both since she's getting married this summer too.

Mine was exactly two weeks before. I got partial highlights and a trim of dead ends with very slight layers since I wanted to keep it long-ish for the wedding.

I was wondering the same thing too! I was thinking a couple of days before but it makes sense to have the appointment two weeks before after reading some of these comments!

    Thanks!

My last pro colour was Friday, just highlights. I'll be putting a demi-permanent colour in in a few weeks. Final cut will be 2 weeks before.

I would go twice: once 2 weeks out and once a couple months before (JUST in case anything goes wrong you have plenty of time to fix it). A couple weeks ago I wanted to get my hair dyed closer to my natural color (two years ago before dying my hair I was a light ash blonde). I told the stylist to go based on the roots (which I've since learned have been growing out much darker), so now I'm a blond (according to my mind) with brunette hair and am NOT happy. I've made an appointment to go back and fix it which gives me plenty of time before the wedding to make sure it's perfect. I figure once the wedding is over I'll suffer through the roots and get back to my original color.

My best friend is a hairdresser and she says the same as above; once 7-10 days before the wedding (when it's nothing SUPER major like a brand new colour, but more roots or brightening the faded colour) so the cut and colour is fresh, and once 6-8 weeks before to do any last minute changes before the wedding ( experimentation with colour or cuts, in addition to drastic colour change, any drastic cuts, thinning the hair, etc). Good luck with the new hairdresser! ETA: spelling

I can't remember the last time I had my hair cut, but my last color was about a week before the wedding. But... I'm super crazy about having no regrowth showing, and I've went to the same stylist for years.

Since you're trying someone new, I'd recommend going now to try them out and again right before the wedding. You don't want a color disaster right before the big day.

I did mine 3 weeks before. My hairdresser of 5 years quit JUST before my last color before the wedding, and I freaked out lol. Luckily, the girl was freaking awesome!!

I have so carefully calculated this, AND have had the same difficulties finding the "right" colorist and hair stylist for this important day. I've bounced around too, but I finally think I hit upon the right person. I am getting a "trim" a month/month and a half before the wedding; and the color about 2 weeks before the wedding. I deal with fading too, despite using some very expensive products/shampoos. I went from colorist to colorist over the last few months and wasn't finding what I wanted. I was getting discouraged and panicked because I wanted to find the color for my bridal look. What I was looking for was Balayage highlighting. NONE of these colorists were trained in it, and neither of them were up front with me about whether or not they could achieve the colors I wanted. So, you guessed it ... I spent hundreds upon hundreds going to colorists trying to achieve the look, until one day, I learned on my own what I wanted, and learned I needed to be more specific in finding the right colorist (I needed to ask salons specifically if they had a colorist who was trained in this highlighting technique). So, I then had a consultation with one of them and she said she was recently trained in it, and it was her favorite thing to do. So, I have an appointment with her in a few weeks and can't wait. Hoping this is the one!

Stylist here! I cut my hair about 4 months before the wedding, and colored it 6 days before. Assuming you color your hair on a regular basis, you probably will need to go in once now and once right before the wedding.

My plan is to go about 2 weeks before. I have seem the same stylist for a couple years and this is what she suggested. I have side bangs to camo my five-head, so she said I could come in wedding week to get those neatened up if I wanted to.

I agree with others, if it is a brand new stylist I think you should go in and get a color done soon-ish to make sure you like the color. If you went in 2 weeks before the wedding and hated it, it would be really stressful to correct it in time.

I don't get my hair cut often, so I already had my last cut before the wedding but I am getting my bangs trimmed/shaped up July 13 on the advice of my stylist! ETA: that's 2 weeks before my wedding

I'm über cheap and go to a hair school for all my needs. Been going there for 5 years so I've developed a relationship with the instructors. I'll get my hi lights done about 2 weeks before with a trim
