Lasik Before or After Wedding?

I just went to the eye doctor yesterday and found out that Lasik is finally an option for me. My eyes are 20-600 and I've wanted to do the procedure for a very long time! The risk of going blind from the procedure is almost nonexistent due to technological advancements. Our wedding is in June next year (11 months out). My question is this: if you had my eyes and could get the procedure done before the wedding, would you?

I had mine done 11 years ago and still have 20/20. Best thing I've ever done! No need for touch ups or additional procedures - so nice to not have to deal with contacts. Cannot recommend it enough! Also - my recovery time was nothing. The only thing that took a little time was halos at night. I wouldn't wait to do it right before but you don't need months buffer either.

Do it before! My vision was terrible, and I had lasik in April. Best decision I have ever made! 3 months later and absolutely no issues, and I can see perfect. You are recommended to use eye drops a few times a day at least 4 months after though, so I would get it done at least a few months before so you don't have to worry about potential dry eye.

I would do it. LASIK recovery is very fast. I had PRK eye surgery. PRK typically takes longer to recover (I had to do PRK over lasik because I am a Navy pilot and at the time they didn't allow lasik) and I was fully recovered in less than 2 weeks. I have some friends who got lasik and they were fully recovered in less than 3 days and could see perfectly. With PRK, I was corrected from 20/200 in 1 eye and 20/100 in the other to 20/15 (one appointment said my vision was even better than that at some point). I got the surgery in Sep 2013 and the only "issue" I have with it now is I do get dry eyes and I never had that before. I know some people who wear contacts get dry eyes often, I never once had problems before surgery. I had never even used eye drops before. thankfully, I only get the dry eyes from sleeping and it normally feels better if I put eye drops in before bed and right when I wake up. Sometimes they're so dry when I wake up, I can't open my eye without drops. It does hurt but it's Not too big of a deal though, I just keep the eye drops on my bedside table. I can't sleep with a fan on any more though because the dry eyes in the morning are too painful. But I have many friends who have had lasik or PRK and only a couple have said they still have dry eyes. Many said they had it for about a year then didn't any more. Some never experience dry eyes from the surgery. My vision also has degraded some from 20/15 that I had post surgery but it's still 20/20 and I think mine degraded a little quickly because I got the surgery at a younger age than they recommended at the time (I was 20). Idk if it's different now but in 2013, they suggested waiting until at least mid 20s because there was too much possibility of eye sight changing or something like that if you got it done too young. I really didn't have a choice with the surgery because I was about to start flight school so I had to do it at age 20. Long story short, I highly suggest it. My vision wasn't as bad as yours but it's so great being able to see without contacts or glasses. Even though recovery is short, I would do it sooner rather than later just in case!

Edit: when I say fully recovered in 2 weeks, I mean 20/15 vision and no pain. With PRK, you can't really see right after the surgery and the vision slowly comes in so I had about a week of not being able to see well enough to drive then the second week, I was comfortable enough with my vision to drive but it wasn't perfect. It did take me longer to adjust my night vision. For a year or so, I hated driving in rain at night because all the lights reflecting off the water on the road made it hard to see. 5 years later, no problem with night vision.

I would get it done before the wedding! I had mine done about a year and a half ago and it was the best decision I ever made! My vision was horrible so being able to walk to the bathroom at night without glasses was amazing to me! I am still seeing perfectly today and my night vision has increased drastically!

Do it! It's definitely worth it! I had it done 2 years ago and it's really nice not having to worry about contacts or glasses. I got the procedure done on a Friday and was back to work on Monday.

Before, before, before! Laser eye surgery was the best decision I ever made.

I was terribly nearsighted and had ICL surgery (implanted lenses) to correct it in 2010 and it was life-changing. LASIK was too scary since they'd have to cut a lot of my cornea to correct how bad my vision was, so the implanted lenses were a safer choice. It's similar to cataract surgery except they leave your natural lens in place and add another collamer lens in front of it. They only need a tiny cut on your eye, so there aren't as many side effects (like dry eyes) and it's completely reversible if you hate it for some reason or if your vision changes in the future. I could see fully the afternoon after my surgery since there's nothing really to heal!

I had lasik surgery about 7 years ago, but did have to have an enhancement. At that time, I had to wait 3 months before they could do the enhancement. My vision prior to surgery was 20/400. Now it's 20/20 and 20/15. Do it sooner rather than later in case you need an enhancement.

I am at 20/20. I got it done jan . Totally worth it. Cost me about 3500. Even if you get it done a month before, you are good. I was good after a fay. The eye drops u have to put in your eyes make ur eyelashes stick so my eyelashes took like a month to gently remove the goo lol i did lose a few...it is recommended that you dont wear eye make up for about 6 weeks.

Thank you all for talking about your different types of procedures too! My doctor gave the ok but I still need to have the consultation with the Lasik surgeon to find out which type would be best, so I really appreciate your information!
