Las Vegas Wedding

Mcafee2018, on June 10, 2017 at 10:25 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

You hear all these stories of Vegas weddings ... like they make movies out of this shit. But really ... this whole wedding planning extravaganza has made me question if this isn't truly the right choice.

We are thinking of getting married in Vegas with close friends and family ... but I've never been to vegas, and my fiance has but it was his 21st birthday a long time ago so ... he doesn't really remember it.

Point being, I'm afraid of a tacky wedding from what I've seen in the movies but ... being on here, my wedding planning has been exceptionally tacky within itself so I don't think it would be too far a stretch.

LOOKING FOR INSIGHT .... If you've had a vegas wedding, what was it like, I need details. What all is included. HELP (I'm from Texas)

I've never been to Vegas, but if you're afraid of it being tacky, then look into popular destination wedding locations (there are many). Vegas isn't guaranteed to be tacky. It all depends on what you plan.

My one brother got married in vegas. They found this little hotel that had a really pretty courtyard where they had the ceremony. We moved into the hotels bar area which they had closed off for us for a couple hours for drinks and apps. We all went to a nice dinner after then hit the strip for basically an extended after party. It was a lot of fun. I stayed 4 days and saw cirque de solei, the fountains at bellagio and a ton of other stuff. I think if you do your research you can definitely have a very beautiful wedding not a 'typical Hollywood wedding'. I think this is a know your crowd situation. I agree with losforthewin, there are plenty of destination wedding locations and Vegas can be one of them. Good luck!

One of my friends had her wedding in vegas and it was awesome! It was off the strip and the ceremony site was beautiful and the reception was very nice. It wasn't tacky at all. I personally feel like it just depends on where you have it

Good to know ... what are some good destination weddings. I am on a super tight budget ... we are basically limited to what our parents are able to pay for ... My mom suggested a vegas wedding and my god father jumped right on board with it ... I am limited to hollywood vegas movies so I'm a little hesitant but ... do they offer cheaper deals than what we could get here? I mean ... is it somehow cheaper to do the same type of small wedding in Vegas than it would be in my own hometown with a cheaper vendor......

My head is spinning from all this stuff.

I'm getting married in Vegas and it won't be tacky. Lol they have tons of really elegant options. They of course have Chelsey ones too. Almost all of the hotels advertise their wedding packages and prices on their site. You should check it out. I absolutely love Vegas!

Agreed with above. Weddings cost money. Unless you want to do the drive-thru Elvis thing, which is totally cool! If not, and you want a wedding with well-hosted guests, even if only 10 or 15, you need to sit down with FH and decide if you want to do a rush job, or save money and get what you want. Photographers, seamstresses, travel costs, gifts for your parents and BP... It all adds up really fast. FH and I used the $5k my parents have us to cover our venue/all inclusive pkg for 50 guests. We will be saving another $5k+ to afford the details of what we want, plus travel costs to New Orleans. Which, BTW, is also a fantastic wedding city.

It would only be tacky if you thought so but for us its about sharing oue love and nothing can make that tacky... Also FH said no to getting married by Elvis haha

We are having a Vegas wedding in September. It's not tacky at all. We are getting married at a country club off the strip.

We did visit strip hotels and there are several gorgeous venues on the strip to get married.

Caesars Palace has the most gorgeous chapel and two stunning outdoor courtyards.

The Linq has a modern chapel that is very nice as well.

The Wynn was beyond stunning however beyond our budget as well.

You can do a ceremony and a dinner afterwards or do a full reception.

A Vegas wedding isn't necessarily a drive thru and done thing.

We will be getting married in Henderson, NV but we are able to see the strip from our location. We looked into a lot of elegant resorts on the strip (Wynn, Caesar's Palace, Cosmopolition, Paris, etc.) before deciding on the Hilton Lake Las Vegas. Researching is key. It really depends on your budget and what type of wedding you are looking to invest in. Some packages even come with a wedding planner.

I'm having a destination wedding in Las Vegas this October. I visited with my fiancée and my mom in 2016 and we had an absolute blast. When we got engaged it was the first place we thought of. We joked about getting married by Elvis but then looked into venues all over the strip and off strip. There are so many venues it made my head spin, and I second guessed myself a lot. A lot of them were also out of my budget by far. A couple of the chapels seemed a little outdated to us, but most of them are very classy and not tacky at all. We're having our ceremony at the Tropicana and our reception at a restaurant down the strip. I say if it's really something you want look into a bunch of venues that suit your style and compare!

ETA: I also talked to some venues (on strip) and was not impressed with the way the coordinator spoke with me and the lack of clarity and information made me walk away. But my venue now is great.

@candiedpeach100317 Which venues were you not impressed with so I know to avoid them.

and all posters who are doing a vegas wedding, did you actually go to these venues previously because I can't afford 2 trips to vegas. Or did you rely on other things like online reviews, pictures, over the phone and email? This is the confusing part because i can't very well just meet with Venues like I would in my area ... And how do you know that you are putting this all on the line and that it will turn out okay? I'm afraid to plan a wedding somewhere that seems nice or seems like a good deal ... but then the day of, it's a complete disaster. I'm scared that my wedding won't be what I wanted it to be.

I'm leaning towards either the chapel of flowers or the chapel of crystals ... any suggestions?

My cousin got married in Vegas. She had the ceremony at the Valley of Fire state park. It was gorgeous! Then a dinner reception at an Italian restaurant on the strip.

I married my ex in Vegas in 2001. I have social anxiety so I thought it was best for me.

If I were doing it again (which of course I'm not), I would google wedding chapels in Vegas. You can take virtual tours and usually get an idea on their prices. Then plan to go out a few days prior to the day you want to get married, walk the strip, and pop into any chapels you were interested in. That's what exH and I did. We found a cute little chapel, made an appt for the next day, then went to the 24hr courthouse, got our license, and got married the next day. We went out there with the intention of getting married. I bought a plain champagne colored bridesmaid gown, my mom (who use to be a florist) made a bouquet for me, and fh rented a tux once we got there. The chapel picked us up at the hotel, brought us to the chapel, we had the ceremony, the ministers assistant took photos for us, and then the limo brought us back to our hotel. I believe the package cost $300 back in 2001 but that was a package that includes photos, a video, champagne flutes, a certificate holder, use of the limo, and a couple other things I just don't recall what they were. It was very inexpensive.

Hope all goes well. Good luck

You can make it as nice or as tacky as you want. Vegas has everything from drive thru weddings to million dollar weddings... I've had 2 friends get married in Vegas that were classy and fun. Both rented the chapel in the hotel and rented awesome suites to hold the small reception in. I think it was probably really reasonable and the ceremony was typical and the suites were perfect for a 25ish guest wedding. If I wasn't so far into the process I'd make that choice if I could do it again. Just did the budget and our $10k ish wedding is officially at $25k and I honestly feel like I've done really well finding everything for reasonable amounts it just adds up so quickly.
