I have a terrible sun allergy.. I've always had it as long as I can remember. If I spend more than 4 hours outside, I get reaally sick. Usually it hits me the next day, I'll get a high fever, chills, stiff & sore muscles and an all around shitty feeling, lasting up to a week. I get weird spots on my skin, discoloration that goes away also. The weird thing is, it doesn't happen all the time. I spent all summer at the river and didn't get sick once. Then, at the end of summer me & FH went to a waterpark and it didn't even wait till the next day. I got a horrible headache and actually threw up while we were still there. Talk about a fun ruiner. Smiley sad I talked to my doctor and she was no help. She basically told me to not go outside. Any other ladies have an allergy/sensitivity?

I LOVE the beach so we are going to Jamaica for our HM. I'm just worried about getting sick. I haven't figured out exactly what triggers it since it's not every time & I have no clue what I can do to prevent it.

Take into consideration that the sun is a lot stronger in Jamaica than it is in the US.

@CrystalS... ouch! That's crazy I've never even thought about that.

    We're staying at Sandals Negril.

Oh also, this happened to me a couple years ago, I went to Spain & Germany with my mom & brother and for 2 weeks of the trip, I was having these same symptoms. We were outside sight seeing and walking around. So I don't think it really matters where I am, just what I'm doing.

Salt water or fresh water or out of the water? Could be a reaction to salt water.

Had it happen both fresh water & no water. Also chlorinated water. Don't think it's ever actually happened to me at the beach. Only actually been a few times.

I have serious issues with the sun. (photosensitive) doctors can't do much for you and if you don't get sick until the next day, its very very mild. on top of it, i do not sweat,, so its a constant struggle. (hypohidrosis) when i go outside, by the time "normal" people think, its hot and i'm a little sweaty, i am purple, covered in hives and vomiting. then i pass out & seize.

what sucks, is this is my life and i live in Vegas. i wear big hats, carry a parasol in the summer and stay indoors a lot. i faint often and trips to the lake are very particular and setup for me to be ok, and still only last an hour at most, with umbrellas, ice packs and water. even severe heat without sunlight can make me very sick.

the sun is much stronger in Jamaica, therefore its OUT as a honeymoon option, unless i wanted to only go outside at night. cooler months may help, but truly, if its a health risk, do not go. its like saying i'm diabetic but insulin is such a drag and cookies are so yummy.
