Kosher catering in NYC/Westchester

Hello all, I'm looking for some advice. We just got engaged and are starting to think of the most important aspects of our wedding. For my fiance, kosher catering is a must because about 1/3 of our guests eat kosher.

I wanted to know if anyone has experience with kosher catering and can help answer some questions:

• Do you have to use specific venues, or will they service anywhere? We don't want to get married at a synagogue or anything like that.

• How much more expensive is it than traditional catering? Any details about expected cost per person? (Probably for about 130–140 guests.)

• I heard meat is more expensive than dairy, is that true? What are the pros and cons of each?

Thank you to anyone who can share some insight!

    Hey there Smiley smile

When searching for caterers on the WeddingWire vendor directory, it’s possible to filter by kosher under ‘Dietary Needs’ - Westchester Wedding Caterers. I would recommend reaching out to any which you would like to find out more information. They will guide you through creating the menu and you can ask any kosher specific questions you have Smiley smile

Thank you so much! I haven't played around with many of the search features yet, but it's great this is included! 🥂

Kosher caterers will go wherever but some venues don’t allow outside catering and if they do, they may charge a fee for use of the kitchen. It can get tricky since the kosher caterer will need to have the run of the entire kitchen and that won’t work if the venue has multiple weddings in a day. Some venues don’t even have a kitchen and the caterer will have to be prepared to set up a little food prep area.

I can’t really speak to the cost difference between kosher and non-kosher because we were only looking at kosher catering.

Yes, meat will be more expensive than dairy. If you have an evening reception, you must serve meat since people will be annoyed if you don’t. But if you have a day wedding, dairy is fine.

PM me if you need more info!

Thank you for replying! I would have expected caterers to be specific about where they go (because they need a certain kind of kitchen, for example). It's good to hear they are flexible!

We'll start our venue search and caterer search in full next month. Right now we're thinking fish and dairy -- we went to a dairy wedding in the winter and everyone really loved the food, even though it wasn't served until 9 or 10 PM.
