Knee length dress for church wedding?

BunBuns, on March 24, 2013 at 10:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Do you think this will be OK? The church doesn't have any kind of "dress code", but I don't want to offend anyone.

I think it depends on what type of church it is. You said that the church doesn't have any of of dress code so I don't see why not. As long as it isn't hoochie it shouldn't be a problem.

However when I said depends on the type of a church with a Catholic wedding I would be worried about the kneeling and standing and sitting etc.

http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Tea-Length-Strapless-Tulle-Gown-with-Floral-Sash-PK3367_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Silhouette-Short I think something like this style just a little under the knees would be perfectly acceptable.

Is there a certain dress you had in mind?

Check with the minister. If he or she is not offended, then your guests are the only folks you would have to worry about. I've seen shorter than knee-length on Sunday morning at my church, so I doubt you would offend anyone here, but every church is different.

Unless you're getting married in 1909 you aren't going to offend anyone. Knee length is respectable. Fwiw, in some conservative Catholic Churches having your shoulders covered would be more important than wearing a full length gown.

My church does not have a "dress code" and we do allow non-members to marry, but do expect everyone (members included) to dress appropriately. Since it is above the knee, has a deep V-neck and is sleeveless, I would speak with the Pastor of the church.

Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.

Do you think maybe I should get a shaw or something to cover my shoulders?

And do you think it's too short?

I was thinking maybe this could be a reception dress and I could buy another one for a actual ceremony if needed, but ti would need to be off the rack as my date is 2 months away. I was originally not getting married n a church.

I honestly think its fine, but you can always ask your officiant. When in doubt I tend to lean more conservative and there's nothing disrespectful about the dress. It's a cute, simple, sweet dress.

Thanks, Paris! I think it's super cute. I tried on a big size when I ordered it, so I actually envisioned it being a bit longer lol. The big size wsa also lot cut because it didn't properly fit, but the store told me it would not look like that when it was my size. Hoping for the best! I won't really have time to get another dress by the time it comes in (early May).

My church is typically knee-length, shoulders covered, no pants for women. -shrugz- essentially business casual

I grew up in a southern baptist church (super conservative bunch) and I would honestly think that dress is fine. I would definitely check with your officiant just to be on the safe side.

Besides - I'm guessing that your guests are still going to be your friends and family and not necessarily all of the members of the church right? Unless your guests are the type of elderly, overly conservative, takes the Bible very literal group of people like I grew up with - you should be fine Smiley smile

    It's a beautiful dress!

We went to a baptism at this church a month or so ago and people were wearing dresses that were knee/slightly above knee length.. I just cannot remember how their tops were cut and if anyone had their shoulders exposed!
