Kinda funny but not funny question about weight limits on chairs...

KenWay, on January 25, 2011 at 1:16 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

My grandmother is a big lady... I am wondering for the white garden chairs what is the max weight that can sit in them? Like the chair below...I need to know because that is what my resort has and I don't want her to feel uncomfortable but at the same time I don't want to have one off chair either...oh poo

Those are the exact chairs we used for the wedding/reception and everyone was fine, big and small. I couldn't give you an exact weight limit, but we did have a few guests that were close to 300lbs and we didn't have any problems. They look really small but they're actually quite sturdy.

I just had a discussion about this Sunday with the woman at our venue. Those chairs look exactly like the ones they provide for our ceremony. She says they hold up to 500 lbs so typically the actual weight is not the problem. However, the size/shape makes them very uncomfortable for larger folks. Due to the little diagonal pieces on the side, if you are a larger person you can only sit on the edge of the seat. My venue gives us the option of putting the first couple of rows with chairs without a side piece. Then our wedding coordinator makes sure that anyone that is a little bigger is seated in one of those chairs.

I didn't want a "one off" chair either that is why we are going with the first couple of rows so it will look like it is done that way to reserve those seats for family. The person that we are worried about is my aunt's bf, so he would be sitting with her in the front.

@christine s. , thanks girlie. I have a decision to make. She might not be comfortable in that chair but they are free with my venue and my budget doesn't allow to rent new. I need to figure something out Smiley smile
