Kinda embarrassing...

Danielle, on February 16, 2016 at 5:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 53

So I want to look nice "down there" for my wedding night and honeymoon. When I shave it doesn't last long and razor burn happens a lot, so I heard that getting a bikini wax would work. I have never had anything waxed before. Any advice? Like when to have it done, how many times, where to go? I am pretty clueless...haha!

If you're going to do that, try it before your wedding. That way if you have any kind of reaction you know before. I don't think you want THAT to happen for your wedding night.

Most places that wax eyebrows also do other body parts. Once you find a place, you'll want to talk to them about how often you should do it and how many days prior to your wedding they recommend you to come in.

European Wax Center! Have it done at least once or twice before the pre-wedding wax. Hurts like hell the first time but it gets better each time. Take Advil about a half hour before the appointment.

Girl, go get yourself a wax! Somewhere that uses sugar wax, preferably. Seeing as your wedding is the end of May, I would go this week for your first one (sometimes the first can leave some redness or you may not react to it well - definitely take care of it now!). You'll want to get them every 3-4 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows (so maybe 2 more times if you really spread it out before the wedding?). Your aesthetician will advise you best! But I'd say go at least 3 days before your wedding but not more than 5/6. Smiley smile

Start now, so you can get a few waxes in beforehand. It really isn't bad. Don't judge from the first wax - your skin will react much worse the first time it gets done. Redness, pimples, ingrowns...get a good sugar scrub and use it on your bikini area before the wax, and then every time you shower afterwards (after 48 hours has passed since the wax, don't scrub a fresh wax). I use hydrocortisone to help with the redness. And make sure you moisturize after you shower! That'll help the ingrowns, too.

ETA: I really dislike European Wax Center and have always *always* gotten better results at local places where the estheticians are the owners. To me, it's the difference between going to Hair Cuttery versus a salon, just without the crazy price difference.

Brazilian hurts far less than waxing my legs. It's not terrible pain, but not comfortable. As Rebecca mentioned, the European Wax Centers are wonderful. For newbies, they will cool each section of skin with ice.

It really doesn't hurt as bad as you think it might. Take a Tylenol half an hour before you go and just relax!

I've waxed and liked the results but the hair always grew back too fast for me. I've just started laser hair removal and will probably be done with it by my wedding. If you want temporary go with waxing. If you want permanent definitely go with laser. I wish I did it sooner.

Waxing is great. I would recommend at least two before the wax for your wedding. Because the more you do it consistently, the less hair is pulled, hence less irritation.

Schedule it on a day you wont be exercising after.

Exfoliate the area in the shower in the morning

Make sure that the hair to be pulled is about a 1/4 inch. They will trim if too long

Wear looser fitting clothes, like panties that don't have a ton of elastic

Schedule your second one 3-4 weeks out.

Don't put on lotions or anything after for about a day.

Avoid hanky panky for the night until you know how your skin reacts to it.

If you are super sensitive, a lot of places use talc or a powder before applying wax to avoid interacting with the skin.

My place offered wine, when I first started doing it I'd ask them to bring me a glass before I even went into the wax room.

Wine actually makes it worse, expands blood vessels or something. Don't quote me but I read it's bad. Tylenol is good. Really takes 3 times before long lasting results.

    Shower BEFORE you get waxed.

I saw a woman go from the gym to a wax. Oh my god, that poor aesthetician. Probably smelled like an old fish market by the time this woman left.

E=mc: It could make it worse. I've heard that too. For me I have to say it was more effective in calming my nerves rather than the pain.

OKD: Legs hurt. The back of my thighs and front of my shins are when I always need a minute to take a breath, lol.

I have to say getting a wax was a little awkward and embarrassing but it did help reduce hair.

I also think European Wax Centers are wonderful. I also think all of the after care products they offer are awesome. I cannot go without the body wash.

I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't do this lol. I just trim everything up so it's not unruly down there.

I purchased my own professional wax kit at a local Sally's beauty supply store. It hurt the 1st few times, but now I'm pretty used to it. I self wax every 5-6 weeks. I never had much hair down there to begin with lol
