Kind of a spin-off: Naming tables

Shelby_Erin26, on March 25, 2016 at 7:06 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

The GoT thread got me thinking that it would be fun to think of something FH and I really love and name our tables after it. But would it seem out of place if there was nothing else at the wedding referencing it? We are kind of have a woodland/vintage (sounds weird I know) thing going on and if we name the tables after Pokemon cities (just an example) will it look completely out of place and weird? Or does it come off as cute because of the personal touch?

To me, it would seem out of place if the table names had nothing to do with the theme. But that might just be me lol.

If you would do something like naming the tables, I would do wildflowers. It would fit your theme a little better I think. Love Pokémon, but that would be a little off to me.

I appreciate the input! If I suggest it to FH it will have to happen because he would be sooo excited. I wouldn't want to crush his spirit so I'm trying to decide if I should say anything at all.

I agree. Table names need to match the theme. We have a lot of ocean and marine life themes so our tables will be marine animals. I like the wildflower idea or maybe tree species.

We don't have a theme for the wedding, but there are a couple of baseball elements for me. We are naming the tables after field positions. The other baseball elements are: three baseball roses in my bouquet, place cards are "tickets", and my ring will be carried in tied to a baseball.

I'm very "matchey" about things so I think it would need to fit the theme or it wouldn't make much sense. If you're not sure about it, and your FH would absolutely want to do it after you suggested it, I wouldn't say anything just yet...

We have a forest woodland theme and are doing tree table names. The Pokemon thing would be a little out of place to me too. What about a Pokemon cake topper? I think that can be a little more out there without being out of place!

I think you could do table names from a different theme and still tie them into your full theme, depending on what the table names are.

    For example, Pokemon cities:

    Lavender Town

    Blackthorn City

    Cherrygrove City

    Goldenrod City

    Mahogany Town

    Violet City

    White Forest

All of those would still tie into a "woodlandy" theme. You could even drop the "town" or "city" endings.

Not sure if you are actually considering Pokemon though, so I don't know how this would work with another mini theme.

We are doing each table a different sea creature or something ocean related. There will be a large cut out on each table and a tiny one on each place card. Just match your design and wha-laaa! Originally he wanted to do the scientific names of fish species I told him no.

We're doing table names - each table is named after a park in NC. When we first started dating we were both only working part time retail jobs, so we went to a new park to hike each time we both had a day off work.

Since our theme is aviation and travel, we are doing cities like New York, Tokyo and London.

If you're not doing a highly specific theme, the tablenames absolutely don't need to match! I don't know where the heck people get these ideas that everything needs to be matchy-matchy. Ugh.

We've got kind of a generic venue, and our theme is "we're freakin getting married". So we're personalizing with escort cards, table names, and other little decor touches. We both love classic literature, so the tablenames will be front cover images from our favorite books. And the escort cards will be bookmarks with a love/relationship quote from each book (and the book title) - they'll double as favors.

We also have an enchanted forest theme (popular it turns out!) and we're going to theme our tables. Harry potter, star wars, GoT, WoW, Walle ect but I plan on just doing a little different decoration on top of the same centerpiece so they are all similar but not matching.

I am now thinking that. My theme is Cinderella I don't know if I should name tables after the theme or name the names of each Disney princess

My family is super Italian and at my aunts wedding, she named her tables after different towns in Italy. She didn't really have a theme so it didn't seem that odd. Everyone who knows her wasn't at all surprised by that.

Yet another instance of WW proving that I'm not actually creative at all... I thought my tree idea was super unique. *womp womp*

Regardless, we're naming our tables after types of palm trees in a picture frame featuring a photo of said palm tree. Coconut, Royal, Queen, Foxtail, etc.

All of our tables are different authors. I think we have a Keroac table, shel Silverstein, jk Rowling, Tolkien....I just woke up so I can't remember more. And then they have quotes too.

I need to actually get on that. Ugh.
