Kids meal for 10 Month old?

Kobieta, on May 31, 2016 at 7:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 41

How would you handle this? My cousin and her husband have two children. The baby will be 10 months old at the time of the wedding. She asked what the kids meal would be, I explained it is chicken tenders and fries. She rsvp'd for two kids meals. Um...10 month olds shouldn't have french fries and deep fried chicken. My cousin and her husband are morbidly obese. My mother thinks they're ordering two kids meals so they have additional food, not actually for their children. Kids meals are EXPENSIVE. I don't feel comfortable paying for an extra children's meal that I KNOW a baby couldnt even eat. So, what do I do? I have no problem with getting a kid's meal for the 2 year old, as I do believe in properly hosting guests... but a baby. Yesh. I dunno.

Eeek. This is tough. I would say just so the 1 kid and 2 parents meals. the caterer will be handing it out so I think they'd have to have a lot of guts to ask the caterer for more. You may not know why they asked for it but It's not reasonable for a 10 month old to have that. If they ask you afterwards why they didn't get a second, just say you assumed it was a mistake since They have a 10 month old

Our venue told us kid meals were for ages 2 and up only. The babies would be assumed to eat off of their parents plates. A 10 month old will not need a plate of his own. Simply tell her that the kid meals are for kids 2 and up.

I wouldn't worry about it. Not your kid, so not your decision about what they should be eating. Maybe they'll take the breading off the chicken, etc.

ETA: If your caterer or venue specifies that the meals are for a certain age then just tell your cousin that.

I say just go for it. In the long run, saving $10 or something isn't worth it.

They won't eat that much. Maybe they meant to rsvp for the kids but not necessarily the second meal?

I agree with you that the kid shouldn't be eating that, and if it were my kid, they'd probably be eating whatever they could off of my plate instead....but...I wouldn't make it a big deal. I'm sure at the very least some of the fries will get nibbled on.

It's a plated meal so I needed guests to rsvp which meal they wanted with their initials, so it's pretty clear the baby was to get his own meal. I'd just count one for the children's meal numbers HOWEVER everyone is supposed to have a place card, children included, indicating their food choice. Thanks for the great suggestions!

Yeah, I agree with @mimitrue. Just tell them that the caterer will only provide kids' meals for ages two and up, so they will have to either let one kid share with the other, or let their 10 month old eat off of their plates

At 10 months my son was on a lot of solids, but not chicken tenders and fries. He loved grilled chicken, fresh fruits/veggies, meatballs, pasta, and a lot of other foods.

I wouldn't ever bring a baby that little to a wedding.

My niece is 10 months... she only eats milk and pureed fruits/veggies. My sister is bringing her normal baby food. I'm not sure she's even had meat yet...

She is not getting a kids meal.. i find it absurd your cousin would even expect that.

Our venue didn't charge/serve a meal, until the guest was age 3 and up. Unless a parent wore an infant in a sling, they needed a seat, counted in the occupancy limits, needed a chair cover (except for high chairs), counted in the totals for tablecloth rentals and centerpieces, etc. It was over $20 per seat, just for those costs.

Ask your venue. They might not provide meals/platters, unless the guest is age 3 and up, no matter how much food your cousin's family wants served to them.

Even if the 10 month old was eating that type of food, they're is probably enough food for the 2 year old and a 10 month on a plate.

I was told children under 3 usually just eat off their parents plates.

When my daughter was 10 months old she had almost all of her teeth and was eating regular food as long as we cut it small. if you are concerned i would ask if they have a fruit option like bananas and soft fruits for children under 1, instead of a full meal.

Typically, a ten month old would be sharing. I highly doubt his three year old sister could finish a plate of food, there isn't a reason they couldn't share IF he was eating fried foods at that age. I think that's part of my shocked attitude, who orders kids meals for babies?!

Any logical person would let a ten months old eat off there plate and even if this isn't the case eshoukd she bring snacks and baby food for her child at that age

@Spazzy Not true. Look up baby led weaning. A lot of babies learn how to handle different textures early on with this method.

I did BLW with my own son so that's where I was coming from. I would think chicken tenders cut up into small pieces would be relatively soft. I guess I was thinking there isn't much of a difference between tenders/nuggets. Not that I'd feed my kid that. He hasn't really enjoyed any meat we've tried to feed him.

Oh definitely not, Spazzy. Good eating habits are important to start young. My son didn't have any artificial sugar until after his first year and he doesn't have the taste buds for sweets now Smiley tongue
