Kid Weddings: Cute or Creepy?

The Bride, on July 30, 2019 at 3:56 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 21
Most kids like to play dress up, but should they be walking down the aisle?
According to The Real Daytime, a pair of parents created a mini marriage ceremony for their kids who are close friends, the children were told that they were getting married.

What are your thoughts on kid weddings? Are they cute or creepy? Why?

I think if a couple of little kids want to pretend to get married, cool, that's kind of cute. When parents make comments about their child's future boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse, it's a little too much for me. They're babies, no need to start making plans for their future at 5 years old.

It's cute ahah I guess because kids playing dress up in an innocent manner like that just seem super cute

Creepy! Always creepy to me. Its one thing when the kids themselves do it but another when adults take part in it.
I just can't justify indulging children to act like adults never mind the money aspect of such a thing.

I think that's creepy. Not everyone wants to get married, so why push kids into doing something they potentially don't want to do?

Agreed with PPs, kids pretending to have weddings is cute, but parents holding an "event" is weird.

Ok when I was in 2nd grade my friend and I decided that we were married and he gave me a ring made out of a post-it note 😂 THATS cute, IMO hahaha. But your parents setting up an event for it...? That is definitely creepy...

I think this was a little more than dress up but I understand your perspective.

I also think the parent's participation takes this to another level.

It's a little disturbing to me when parents have children do adult things such as thing.

I like the last woman's comment. Yea the parents are photographers so maybe they thought it was art but it's a bit too grown for my taste. Especially the kissing.
I know in some areas kissing on the lips isn't a big deal but it's uncommon in my area and I think it's weird for kids to do lip kisses. Plus germs.

I completely agree it was just too adult-like.

I just find it ironic that when teenagers say they are gay, they are told they are too young to really know that. But somehow, we think 5-year-olds can know they are straight.

And "the children were told that they were getting married"?!?! That's way different from kids who know they are pretending. If they are told they are getting married at 5, and somehow aren't married later on, that seems to cheapen the whole idea of marriage.

That's a very interesting perspective. You always push my thinking. Thank you for that.

It’s fine if the kids want to play pretend. Pretend wedding, pretend house, whatever. It becomes concerning when it’s the adults orchestrating it, it doesn’t feel like a fun pretend game anymore. I wouldn’t use the word creepy because the intent isn’t malicious but it does bother me.

Maybe just “odd”, I don’t like it but it’s not hurting anyone.
