I feel like directly communicating to people with children about it would be the kindest approach

That is what I initially thought of doing but alot of the comments stated that would be rude.

I don’t plan on having a wedding website, so I wrote adults only please on the last line of my save the date. You can’t assume someone won’t bring their kids unless you’re explicit. I don’t think it’s rude especially if you factor the extra seats & budget they’ll take up.

That was also an idea that was suggested by another bride and what I have decided we will do as well.

Just got engaged on 10.10.19 getting married 10.10.2020 so I haven't set our wedding website up yet...but that is the next thing on my list and I will be adding the FAQ to answer any questions that need to be answered.

    Thank you.

We are having a kid free wedding as well. When guests received their save the date/invitation it had exactly who was invited. If they still questioned it, our website has a FAQ page with the answer that while we loved their children we were considering this their day off and would love for them to find a babysitter and join us to celebrate our marriage

I only did it kid free for ceremony. But luckily my church has a nursery and a church nanny I had watch the kids so didn't really matter too much to the parents.

We're having a kid-free wedding and have opted for " An Adult Only Affair" on our invites. Additionally, on our website, there is an FAQ that lists no children.

We put an informational paper with the invite and it said, "although we love your children we regretfully cannot accommodate them at the venue due to restricted numbers. Children of immediate family and babies in arms are the exception. We hope you will see this as an opportunity to let your hair down and enjoy the party with us!

OMG, I could not have said it better. People assume A LOT when it comes to YOUR wedding, so you have to be very clear every chance you get.
