Hey just looking for opinions. I'm getting married soon and we want to have our children be the flower girl and ring barer... My sister in law to be said that guests would be offended if we asked them to leave their children at home while ours was there for our big day. Our kids would be leaving soon after reception starts. I feel like it's our big day and we could do that but would you be offended as a guest in that situation?

I just realized duh you already have children 🤦🏼‍♀️. I’m sure you’d be understanding as a guest in this situation so your guests will just have to deal.

My plan is to have a child free event minus those in the wedding party. Guest should be understanding especially being that they are your children. If the bride and groom had children, as a guest I would expect them to be at the wedding, even if I was told I couldn’t bring mine.

Someone will always be offended by it, and it'll typically prevent at least one guest from coming. That being said just put "Adult only ceremony and reception" on rsvp and invites. It's common so everyone will get over it eventually. Poems are too obtuse for people to understand, you'll probably end up having a few people ask or try to talk you into letting kids come. Just stick your choice and say no.

Just address the invites to the people invited. As for your kids, they are your kids and it makes complete sense to have them as part of your wedding! As for other kids, that's your decision. I've been to many weddings where the couple had their children involved, but it was an adult only affair otherwise. Didnt hear a single complaint from those who had kids not invited. When it comes to this, generally it's acceptable that kids in the wedding party are the exception to a 'no kids' wedding. Those who cant find a babysitter, or are that offended their children weren't invited will simply decline the invite. Or they may reach out and ask, which you then need to stand your ground and say, unfortunately children are not invited. Good luck!

No I would not be offended. It's your day. Why can't you have your kids there and no one else's? Don't over think it. Do you.

I think it's pretty standard to have an "only wedding party kids" wedding. I don't know if you plan on using the "we want this to be a fun night out for parents" wording, but it could be taken as they can't have fun with their kids around and that could get under peoples skin.

We don't have many kids in the family so we don't plan on explicitly saying no kids but rather just addressing the invites to the adults stating the number of seats reserved. I know I've seen some people had issues with questions about if the kids were invited or not still and having to deal with those on a 1 on 1 basis but at least that way you can tailor your response to each individual/family.

That is exactly what I am doing. My nieces will be attending the wedding. Other than that there will be no kids.

In mine I put "although we love your children we unfortunately cannot accommodate them at the venue due to restricted numbers...we hope you will see this as an opportunity to let your hair down and enjoy the party with us!"
