Ketubah

Stephanie, on January 8, 2014 at 1:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

My fiance isn't Jewish, but we're having a sort of atheist/Jewish ceremony (no god/spiritual stuff, but still engaging in a bunch of Jewish traditions). I'm really excited because he wasn't really into the idea of having a ketubah, and now he's really excited about having one. The problem right now is that we can't really find one in our price range that we both like!

He's really into ones that look stained glass-y, or that have celtic knot designs, or that look kind of like paintings that have the words sort of superimposed in one corner. On the other hand, I like more modern "cute" designs, watercolors, or chunky mosaic styles. We've been searching etsy as well as ketubah.com but we'd love some more ideas. We'd prefer to keep the ketubah under $400 if we can.

So, ladies and gents, show me your ketubot! Where did you get yours? What styles do you like? Maybe yours can inspire us so we can find one we both love!

Hopefully Pezzy and 2d Bride see this post and can direct you to some places online. They have both posted pics of theirs and although super different from each other's they are both awesome in their own ways.

Have you checked Gallery Judaica? These ones are more modern, but kind of still have a stained glass feel, so they may be a good compromise?

One of my very good friends is making ours for us--more on the modern side. I did a google search to get an inspiration for the design. He's agnostic, and I'm Jewish, so we selected an interfaith/non-religious text (also via google). Good luck! This is one of my favorite parts of the whole wedding!

Thanks, Barbara! I will check out the website. I also am an idiot and forgot that there are several Judaica shops near me (I live near a couple VERY Jewish towns near Boston).

Ms. Pepe, I am so excited that so many ketubot have the option of interfaith/non-religious texts. One of the major reasons my fiance was initially hesitant to have a ketubah was that he's formerly Catholic and he's not comfortable engaging in most religious traditions (especially ones that he didn't grow up with). When he realized that we could have one that didn't have any mention of god, he perked up a bit, and once he started looking at different options, he got really excited!

Were also doing an atheist/Jewish ceremony! I wanted some aspects like the ketubah and chuppah so FH is very awesome to agree to it.

We are actually getting ours off of Etsy but we both like simple designs and such and since my Hebrew name means "tree of life", I thought it cute. We will also be choosing different colors.

ETA: this is also a good website that has literally thousands of them and you can choose different text and customization.

I'm glad he's more excited, Stephanie! I really think of the ketubah as a permanent version of our vows, and there is no doubt you guys will pick something that will reflect how you feel towards one another.

Truffle, love it! Ours will be based off of that example, but there will be 18 circles that will be turned into pomegranates!

That sounds very pretty Ms Pepe! You will have to post a photo when you receive it.

If anything, FH sees them as art so he had a lot of fun when we were looking at them.

I think it's a beautiful idea, and there are a lot of contemporary ones to pick from at that website.

We've already scoured ketubah.com for ideas, so other websites would be welcome.

My nephew & his bride (who is Jewish) used a blown up photo from one of their trips and had the words added to it.
