Keeping Last Name - Still a Mrs?

Kate, on April 29, 2019 at 3:28 PM Posted in Married Life 0 14
I am keeping my last night, no hyphenation either, it has been brought up and I am not sure - would I still be considered a Mrs?

I think you'd just be a Ms. in that situation!

Technically I think you are still a Ms. I believe "Mrs" means "wife of," so it makes sense to say "Mrs. Husband's last name" but doesn't really work to say "Mrs. Maiden Name."

That being said, technicalities aside, you really can call yourself whatever you want Smiley tongue

Personally - No I won’t be, especially as Mrs My Surname is my grandmother and will refuse to be called it. I am Ms Surname, end of.

I have had had one person ask if I will be Mrs but generally everyone has assumed I’ll still be Ms (or Miss, if they don’t know I prefer Ms)

i know many many women who kept their names (from 70 to 26) and not a single one uses Mrs Original Surname.

True historic etiquette states that Mrs should never follow a woman’s surname so by extending that logic Mrs Maiden Name is a no no

But ultimately choose to use whatever title you want to

Ms is just trying to create a female Mr. A title that doesn’t designate marriage status.
I know women who are married, change their name and still is Ms because they wanted a title which didn’t declare their relationship status. Not common but does happen. Equally plenty of married, single, realationshipped women use Ms.

I plan to leave mine as “Ms.” no marital status needed.

I think I would stick with Ms. if it were me. But honestly, I think if you prefer one or the other than do it!

    You would be Mrs.
Formally addressed it is Mrs. Jane Doe and Mr. John Smith. Woman goes first in that case

FH is taking my last name so I won’t be changing mine. I am planning to go by Ms as Mrs just doesn’t sound right to me but FH wants me to be Mrs.

Personally I’d go with whatever you prefer. If you want to be Mrs, go for it.

Of course! Your married Smiley smile

I'm no English major but I think otherwise that would just be ridiculous. You are married after all it should be automatic.
