Keeping Dress Wrinkle Free In Car

Sam, on September 21, 2016 at 10:34 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

So my plan for arriving to my ceremony is to drive my dad and I up to the ceremony (outdoors), get out, and walk down the aisle. I drive a mustang and my dad and I love mustangs/cars in general. I thought it was a really cool way for me to insert my personality into the wedding. Multiple family members are concerned that I will ruin my dress in the process of driving to the ceremony though. It's only a 10-15 minute drive, but it will also involve a speedy shoe change as well since I drive a manual. Will it really wrinkle my dress that much to drive 10 minutes in it? Yes, it will have to bunch up a bit on the floor of the car, but I didn't think that would be enough to wrinkle it that much. Any thoughts or ideas to keep the dress looking nice?

What kind of material is in your skirt/train? Some will wrinkle a lot faster than others

The dress is lace with some tulle underneath.

It really depends on how long the train is and what material it's made of.

You can drape the train across the passenger seat.

So you'll pull up the car where all your guests can see, and then get out of the car, change your shoes, and walk immediately down the aisle?

You must be more composed than I am. I'd definitely need/want a moment in private to change my shoes and make sure my dress and everything was right before heading down the aisle. Can your dad drive so you don't have to change shoes in front of all your guests?

I drove myself to prom, and I remember it was difficult to feel like my feet were safely at the pedals with all that dress in the way. You'll have a much easier time wrangling the dress if you're in the passenger seat.

I would change my shoes in the car, should be a simple slip off, slip on. My dad can't drive a manual because his left foot is paralyzed unfortunately. I know it all sounds a little complicated, but I'm trying to find a way to make it work. I might try to do a test run before the wedding.

I agree with Bookcase, what a pain to drive with this train, even for automatic car, not to mention it can be dangerous. That's why you never see the bride driving the car.

How about your dad driving it?

I dont think it'll wrinkle that much, if at all. But maybe get a portable mini steamer if you're worried, otherwise, this is weird, but try to 'roll' it up

Can you have someone else drive and you and your dad sit in the back? Then you'll be able to place your dress properly and have a moment to yourselves without worrying about driving and your dress and shoes causing you grief..

It's a mustang, only children fit in the back really. And unfortunately, like I said, my dad can't drive the car. I might just put my dress on and sit in the car and then gauge whether the dress poses any danger with the pedals or not. Thanks for everyone's input, I'm still on the fence. If I feel there is any danger involved I'm not going to do it of course.

I personally don't think it will wrinkle that much. I think this is awesome!!! I'm a fan of the idea (I love driving a manual and think it's a pretty awesome way to bring a touch of your and your dad's personalities into things).

I think if you do get any wrinkles, they would be minor and will probably fall our during the ceremony. Worst case scenario, take a mini steamer to touch up your dress after the ceremony and before your formal pictures.

As a sidenote: I've driven my manuals in some pretty ridiculous shoes. Are you sure you can't just drive with your shoes on?

@JadedRaven I was going to try driving around some this weekend in them to test it out some more. I quickly tried to test it out before but the heel was so high that I couldn't get the clutch all the way down. Maybe if I switch to a wedge it would help.
