Keep Current Lantern Decor or Buy New Ones?

Mageofhonor, on October 28, 2020 at 4:37 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 20

Hello, WW friends! I need your aesthetic opinions on a decor piece that I’m slowly losing my mind over. 🤪

We knew we’d like to integrate lanterns into the wedding decor (to flank the ceremony aisle and potentially table decor) so when we saw this lantern on sale, we snatched up as many as we could (only 7, but for $170):Keep Current Lantern Decor or Buy New Ones? 1
Now that I’ve been looking at more lantern inspiration, I’ve come across the additional ones below, and I think the ones I bought are starting to look not as cool/too simple? Keep Current Lantern Decor or Buy New Ones? 2

The lanterns above are a little more expensive, but some of them can be ordered in the total quantity we’d need. Our “theme” is more magical, moody, and vintage. And if we use them as table decor, we’re hoping to hang the table numbers to them in addition whatever else goes in there (led lights, led candles, glass orbs, hanging tea lights, etc.) I also already asked my mom and FMIL to keep a lookout on more units of the lantern we currently have.
What are your thoughts on the lanterns? Which of them do you like the most, and which the least? Is it worth it to return the lanterns I have, and order new ones (depending on availability)? Or does it seem like the ones I have would work well enough?

I think the lanterns you have are nice and you don’t need to throw a bunch of money at it. If you still want some of the more ornate ones, how about mixing them up together? Mismatched centerpieces still look great. That’s what I’m doing.

    That’s what I think. I actually like #1 and #2 together.

I agree with doing a mix of the different styles! Since you need to get more anyway, you can come up with a game plan of how to best mix and match. Plus, you never know if the more expensive ones that you found will go on sale too! It definitely won't look bad having a mix of the different styles and I think will actually add to the moody/vintage feel you're going for.

Thanks! By #1 and #2, do you mean the first two options of the new lantern, or the ones that I have and the first option of the lanterns?

Thanks! That seems to be the general consensus. It’s funny—it never even crossed my mind to mix them until you all brought it up, but I’m really drawn to that idea now. 😅 Here’s to hoping they go on sale! Thanks again!

#1 is the one you have, right? Then I like that one with #2. They’re different but somehow complement each other.

Yay! The shape of 1 & 3 are more similar but it’s looks like you’re trying to match them but they’re not the same. #4 just doesn’t fit unless you love that one and want all your lanterns to be that one.

I think they’re all nice. I’d actually use all of the different styles for mix-and-match (yet still coordinated) look on each table. I really like that variety.

I see what you mean...with a stronger difference between the styles it’ll make it look more purposeful rather than an accidental match or something. I agree that the 4th one stands out pretty strongly. Thank you!

That would be a really interesting mix! And I could eliminate the FOMO. 😅 I’ll have to see what my budget tells me I can do, haha. Thanks for your suggestion!

That’s it. Purposeful. Mixing two styles together would look cool too. But if you really like just one of the newer ones, see if you can sell the ones you bought (on Facebook?) then you’ll have money for the one you want.

I have those exact same lanterns! I agree with others that they can look great mixed with other styles. I have been bargain shopping lately and I think I have about 8 so far.

I will be filling them with firefly lights. We are looking to create a warm romanic feel.

I think I will try mixing and matching the ones I have and the darker new one, especially if we can’t find anymore of the former. Thanks again!

Ah, that’s great! Def going to try the mix & match idea. I’m sure your lanterns will look beautiful with the fairy lights! I really love how they look in pictures.
