Just Soda and Water?

Allymonbanana, on August 1, 2016 at 12:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 34

Is it a must to offer other beverages besides coke, diet coke, sprite and water?

After meeting with the venue coordinator on Saturday, we found out we can bring our own non-alcoholic beverages in. The venue allows this so that soda/water won't go towards are bar tab. There will be a designated area for guests to choose their beverages instead of waiting at the bar. We were planning on having the caterer provide tea, lemonade and water in self serve dispensers. This will cost us $500 though, and we are trying to cut some costs. FH family are big soda drinkers and my family drinks soda. However, I expect mostly everyone else to drink from the bar and no kids are invited. Should we offer lemonade as well?

Could you have another non-caffeine beverage? I don't drink pop, and mostly drink water when I switch at the end of the night, but if I want something with sugar, either OJ or Lemonade would be good.

I would offer an unsweetened ice tea. Not everyone likes carbonated drinks / sugary drinks. And even if everyone is predominately drinking form the bar, they may want something else with their dinner. Some folks may want hot tea / coffee with cake as well.

I think just soda and water (and maybe seltzer?) are fine for non-alcoholic options.

ETA: I mean, lemonade is nice, but I don't think it's $500 nice.

So there will also be alcoholic drinks?

I would be fine with just soda and water if there is alcohol. Otherwise I would prefer some iced tea or lemonade since I am not big on soda. But seriously, will there be alcohol provided as well?

Does the bar offer mixers, like juice? Can your guests drink juice without alcohol?

I'm so glad this thread isn't what I thought it was going to be. I think soda and water is fine.

We are offering full bar. I hate soda, so I usually drink water or tea.

Please say you are hosting alcohol...

Personally, I would be fine with soda and water, though I agree that unsweetened tea is a great choice too.

I don't typically drink, but at a wedding I probably would. That said, I don't drink alcohol as my drink with food. I just don't. So I would still want tea or soda or something with the meal, even with alcoholic options. I don't drink a lot of straight water due to reflux issues, but tea sits well with me, so I would probably choose it over water if I wanted something that wasn't sweet to drink.

I was thinking about buying the Simply Lemonade from Sam's club and putting it in a dispenser?

    You could do:

    -punch

    -Arnold Palmer

    -cider

    -mocktail

-agua fresca (usually water mixed with fruit)

    -horchata

    -ginger ale

@Punkin, I wanted to have an agua fresca available but now we are just trying to keep it simple and not spend too much on beverages since most of our drink budget is going towards the bar.

I think iced tea is the wedding favorite. We're having a dry wedding and only offering water and iced tea. I will have a dessert punch for cocktail hour, but no soda pop because we don't drink soda at all.

@Mary, seriously, you're having a dry wedding AND no pop. You sound like a lot of fun.

We weren't going to offer soda at first because I thought guests would be able to get it from the bar. Since the venue was nice enough to tell us that someone wanting a soda/water from the bar would go towards our bar tab, I would rather buy them myself AND not have guests wait in line for a soda.

There will be juice at that bar, I don't mind that going towards the tab. I'm sure not many guests will want juice.

I think you should add iced tea. I also think you should probably provide coffee for your guests to drink with the cake. I know my grandmother must have at least one cup of coffee in the evening with cake (I don't understand it, but I will provide it).

I even saved a new meme because I thought this post was going to be WAAAAY different.

I think you'd be fine with water and soda. Maybe tea and coffee though with or after cake?

If you need me, I'll be at the bar.

We bought lemonade, iced tea and water and had it in self serve pitchers near the bar for our guests. We opted out of soda since we aren't big on it and we had other options. I think you would be fine.
