just got back from a wedding

elizabeth, on July 2, 2011 at 11:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Ok so first off the bride was so worried about her dress at the alter. She kept on looking at her MOH to fix her dress. Then the sand ceramony table was in the wrong place and some people had to fix it right before. Then the cocktail hour was awesome! They had sushi, shrimp cocktail, fruit, and virgin margarita slushies. The caterer took forever! We ate at 9! The reception was outside and only had one giant light. We were under trees and they had no Christmas lights or candles so when we got our food we all used our phones to see our plates. So learn from these things ladies.

Eeks... one light had to cover how many people?? Did you at least have good music to dance to if you had to wait so long for food? And at least the cocktail hour was good if you had to wait a while for dinner! Smiley smile

One light at night time? Wow, to me that just seems odd. At least the food was good whether you could see it or not Smiley smile

Well hopefully the bride didn't notice the cell phone ambiance Smiley smile Well it sounds like although there were some blunders it all worked out in the end.

Thanks for the rundown! I have to say, one light for everyone is definitely not enough. Can't imagine how awkward it was trying to have a conversation with people you can't even see.

And they say the guests don't notice when things don't go "as planned" lol ...

Wow. I read things like this and it makes me wonder if people think through their plans. At least we all have the reminder to set up lights and have dinner earlier!

This is why I am having an early afternoon wedding! Hopefully, by 0pm we are leaving! Thanks for the insight. It gives more to think about and realization as what all need to be consider for outdoor weddings.

There are so many simple ways these problems could have been avoided...it's a shame. At the very least, the officiant should have made sure the sand ceremony was set up correctly; it's part of what they're there for......

I think these tips are helpful for future weddings, but I hope no-one ever sees these sort of critiques of their own weddings.

Sorry, I have been to what I thought were Christian weddings before but why no dancing? I thought every type of wedding had lots of dancing.

Some of the more traditional denominations (such as Southern Baptist) do not allow dancing...and guests don't notice when the details are off, but they notice when they don't get fed and when they can't see.

What do you do instead of dance? Is there music at all?

Glenn, believe it or not, there are some portions of the Christian faith that do not believe in dancing, nor having music at events. I could not do that, but many do.

Dancing, by many, is considered "sexual". Heck, listen to songs. The word "dance" is often used when the singer is really singing about sex. Tis odd yet true.

@glen some more conservative traditional Christians don't dance. We do have music. Some love songs and Christian music. Instead of dances we play games and have performances. But mostly games and stuff. I have never been to a wedding with a dance.
