June too hot for an outdoor evening reception in Tampa FL?

DreamComeTrue, on August 14, 2009 at 12:40 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

We are thinking about having our ceremony on the beach and then our reception at a venue that only has an outdoor space available but FH is concerned it will be too hot. What do you think!?!?!

I'm not sure how the weather in Tampa is compared to Orlando but I was just there this summer and it was way too hot to be outside even at night. Mostly it's the humidity that's a problem. Maybe a sit down dinner would be okay with a few fans around but if people are going to be dancing you definately want some place with AC.

I would be very worried about it being outside. I live in the heart of tampa and let me tell you it is HUMID even at 11pm. On top of that, you have to worry about the rain. It has a tendency to rain hard at night, so I'd plan on moving your reception inside. You wouldn't want to be sweating and have the cake icing melting. Its just toooo hott here.

Is there a chance of changing your date until April or May? The average temp is about 10 degrees lower and there is a lot less rainfall!

I have lived in Tampa, (since have moved back home) and the temps in June are horrible...the humidity is crazy, even at night. I would get off work at 11pm and just die from the humidity. I'd be concerned...especially if you have curly hair....humidity and curls do not go well together. I know mine didn't.

I went to a wedding in July that was on St. Pete beach and the reception was under a tent just off the sand. I'm not going to lie...it was pretty steamy, but not so much that a large amount of the guests left early. They had several large fans under the reception tent and there was a breeze coming off the water. I think the key is that they started their ceremony about 45 minutes before sunset so that there was enough light for the ceremony and a few pictures (I think they took more photos before the ceremony, but I'm not sure). The key is to do it early in the month and when the sun is just about to set...plus the beach is so romantic during dusk!

St. Pete Beach is a great place to get married...and at sunset...that would be so pretty. Used to go there every change I had...I really miss the beach.

Thanks for your comments everyone! I swear I love this site because its a Blessing to get the inside scoop from people that have been there! Anyway, I hear you loud and clear and we will definitely NOT be having an outdoor reception! I will deff have an attitude if Im burning up and my FH and his family are from the UK so they damn sure aren't used to that type of heat!!! In fact I was there in June and it was 65 -70 at the most! We're still going to do the ceremony on the beach right before the sunsets tho Smiley smile THANKS!!!!
